Rick and Morty -- the new animated show from Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland

I was going to. It was my first thought, but then I thought “hmm, I better take a look to see if there is already a RICK AND MORTY topic having been active recently”, which I did and then here this was.

I can do it anyways, though…I’m sure the mods will understand based on your logic there.

Here ya go, made one.

Thank you

Rick and Morty - The Anime

I’m 4 episodes into the anime show and my thoughts, so far, are:

  • does not justify its existence
  • is poorly animated
  • isn’t funny at all
  • is just a lesser version of Rick and Morty

I like anime when it is well done, but this isn’t interesting or funny. I probably will keep going? Not sure.

I didn’t go past the first episode with that.

I feel like they are expecting people to accept lesser quality animation and scripting just because it is anime and…people like anime?

What a weird idea and poorly executed so far.

Season 9 starts May 26th

For convenience:

Just 22 days.

I hadn’t seen all the seasons fully, for various reasons (I was quite sick for a couple of years and didn’t watch much television, for one).

So the past few weeks I’ve been catching up, and re-watching a lot. This show always repays re-watching.

I adjusted to the new voices without a problem, and looking at the eight seasons as a whole, I remain VERY impressed with the writing.

Looking forward to three weeks and one day from now!

Six days from a new episode (Season 9, Ep 1).

I’m wondering if they are going to explore Rick’s background this season, especially now that the Rick Prime plotline is essentially over (though who knows with this show? We have only Evil Morty’s stated opinion that RP is actually dead.

If I’m remembering correctly, Rick C-137 has mentioned his father once, in passing (when gliding into the stadium-full-of-redheads in the first Unity episode). I don’t think he’s ever mentioned his mother.

And how on Earth was Slow Mobius Rick’s uncle? He didn’t seem to be human, so maybe he was just a family friend who got called “uncle” out of courtesy?

I suppose if the creators think they can really go “one hundred years,” that would be around 40 or so seasons—so maybe they want to go slow in covering these topics…

Some are decrying the Season 9 premiere on the grounds that it supposedly changes an established character. I disagree—it has been established that Evil Morty wanted to get away from the dimensions in which Rick was the smartest person. But that does NOT mean that Evil Morty wouldn’t enjoy dominating Rick----as he did, apparently for weeks or months, using the threat of the Omega Device.

Seems in-character to me.

I liked episode 2 of season 9. Much less hyper than the first.

Does this show hit streaming immediately, like a day later? If so, where?

I guess they felt they had to hit the show-mythology heavy in that first ep.

(I liked them both. Not sure I buy the concept of a smart person voluntarily reducing their own intelligence, but it was poignant nonetheless.)

Episode 3 was another winner.

I had a certain retailer’s frozen hash browns for breakfast today, then I watched the episode and the characters get them. That was weird.

I found it to be the funniest of the new season so far.

I was ‘okay’ with Episode 3; I tend to be less-enthusiastic with their forays into anime-parody (and/or tribute). I’m not sure if that’s because I used to watch a lot of anime back in the day, or despite it.

Anyway, I really liked Ep.4. They even gave Jerry (and his voice actor) something new and different to do.

It never even occurred to me to think that episode made any reference to anime. It was obviously parodying Pai Mei from Kill Bill.

Yes, but most of the fights in “Rick Fu Hustle” were staged as they tend to be staged in anime, with the characters flying through the air with stock facial expressions, etc.

By the way, were Rick’s nanobots ever referenced in the episode? With regard to why they couldn’t repair the damage of the 5-Point Exploding Heart Technique? If not, seems like a plot hole.
