Some OPs in IMHO are very specifically polls. Especially when it is a hot issue, it would be very easy to derail it into a debate, light or otherwise. That is when I step in and try to keep it away from a discussion, so that the poll stays on track. I suspect that is when you see the comments you mention.

You must be joking. First off, the thread was over two weeks old and has 84 posts. Thats way too long for a thread to go if there is in fact a problem with it. Second, several white elephant threads have taken place without mod intervention why is this SS business any different. Lastly, you close the thread with all of the discussion has taken place so far but tell them that they can open the exact same thread? Hello? Why not just leave the thread open and edit in mod approval to the first post?

I don’t like to bitch about the moderation of the board because frankly I don’t care that much but count me as one more poster who thinks things have gone down the drain. Most of all because of the pre-emptive closing of threads. What is that shit? QED’s post was spot on. Cut it out already. Also all the entertaining, albeit heated, threads which are immediately labeled as trainwrecks and closed. But basically I think the newer mods are heavy handed and their judgement somewhat arbitrary. And the pit has gone soft (this is not an excuse to include random swear words in a post - thank you). And an OPer should require a good enough reason to have a thread closed. I could go on…

I disagree. I move threads that are started in the wrong forum. I sometimes warn posters to keep on topic, I sometimes close threads. But I rarely move a thread to MPSIMS that was asking for a factual answer. I move threads looking for factual answers about Cafe subjects to Cafe.
