How safe of a sex act is this. I know the HIV risk is low but what about for other things? I know Hep 1 & 2 come to mind.

Also is this more a gay thing than straight?
Do women get into it? Given or receiving?
I dated a woman for a while thawt was into rimming…giving and receiving. At least from my experience, it can be a heterosexual thing too.
Just like with any oral sex act, there are risks, but (pardon the pun :D) those can be minimized by making sure that you are both very clean.
I would think that the risk for the receiver would be lower than the risk for the giver, but (pardon the pun–again :D) I haven’t read any studies either way.
I have dated a couple of women who were into giving and receiving. No I don’t think it’s a gay thing. Yes, there are risks but I personally havent had any bad experiences. Just be smart, clean and healthy.

The official word from the various gay groups and AIDS support services I’ve volunteered for/frequented/dealt with suggests that rimming is low-risk for HIV, but poses a risk for hep A and B. Fortunately, it is easy to be vaccinated for those diseases.

As a Med student…I can tell you one thing about “rimming” that isn’t generally known. Because this particular area of the body is not designed for penetration by sexual organs, people who have anal sex are more prone to catching an STD. - This is because the tissue lining the anal canal is not as thick as that in the vaginal canal, hence if a virus (ie: HIV) enters the anal canal, it is very likely that you WILL catch an STD, but if the virus enters VAGINALLY, there is some mechanisms in the vagina (ie: acids; phagocytes etc) which can destroy the virus prior to it becoming rampant in the body.
On top of that, how can it actually be enjoyable?? BLURKKK

I just meant from all the double entendres Meephead was dropping, I figured someone, formally ignorant of rimming, could have deduced it. Rimming definitely falls under the advanced section in the sexual manual. It is not wise to try this out in any relationship without discussing it first. Even after discussing it I wouldn’t recommend it. Hep A and B seem like a good reason the avoid it and so do the coliform bateria described in Cecil’s column. But hey, what ever floats your boat, I’m just saying I wouldn’t try it.
