Rimworld: old west meets sci-fi

I found a way to have a colony of droids without being so overpowered. One of the “Fembots” mentioned earlier plus some helper drones and a bunch of drone batteries from this associated mod. No drone is capable of more than just a couple of tasks; I’d have made an entire colony out of just drones but then there wouldn’t be any researcher.

Another mod to recommend: Arcjc’s Wall Defenses. The AA Turret in particular; about a dozen turrets can cover a large map and intercept air-bound raids before they land.

I’ve been away from the game for several months and it looks like most of the mods I’ve been using updated to 1.3 during that time. Modded 1.2 won’t even load properly so, rather than testing to see what still works with 1.2, I’ll be running tests to see which mods cooperate best then start a 1.3 colony in earnest.

Fluffy’s mod manager does a great job of making it easier to check compatibility and keep things organized.

Thanks, I’ll check that out.

Two of the reasons I prefer to run tests are hopefully ensuring no mods will interfere with generating a starting map and not having so many tabs in the Architect menu that the info panel gets significantly cut off.

Resumable Job Progress is a neat mod but – unfortunately – currently broken, causing pawns tasked with deconstruction to just stand there. It’s also evidently incompatible with certain race mods, like some of the androids mentioned upthread; they’ll not be assigned any task unless you do it manually.

I’m currently on a similar urban ruins map in the middle of a jungle canyon. Enclosed mountain caves to the north and south with narrow openings on the west and east; it’s like a river dried up and left ponds of swamp water. Anyone entering from the east will likely get chomped by crocodiles.

Similar thing with Shale - from oil to plastic – turns all vanilla ruins to plastic.

No idea why I even subscribed to that mod; I already had Expanded Materials - Plastics.

Rimworld is coming to XBox and Playstation. July 29 is the date mentioned, though I didn’t see that date on the official site, but they are taking pre-orders.

Having recently obtained a PS5 I’m at least curious. I have 800 hours thus far in the PC version.

I was just about to post this myself. I haven’t had access to a PC for years, so it’s been a while since I played Rimworld. I am sceptical that the UI wil be good enough on the PlayStation though; I found it fairly fiddly with mouse/keyboard.

Prison Architect was my gateway drug into Rimworld, and I see PA has been on PlayStation for some time (I can get it “free” with my PS Extra subscription). I haven’t actually played PA yet on the PS, but I think it will give a good indication of how the UI for these types of games.

I’m guessing there will be a cap on the amount of memory occupied by mods, like with Fallout 4 – assuming the console version even allows mods.

Regarding mods, here is an official statement (tl;dr: not at launch, but maybe someday):

Speaking of mods, I have to recommend Smoothing WorkType – this not only separates smoothing from construction but also gives it priority.

[JPT] Soft Warm Beds is a neat idea – makes most beds, including beds from mods, require separate bedding created at a textile bench or crafting spot. Also adds hammocks. I likely won’t use it, though.

Resize Architect Info looks promising; I haven’t been able to try it yet due to trying to add my own videos* to RimFlix without crashing.

*Actually slideshows with a variable speed setting. Usually indistinguishable from video when the images change every 0.03 seconds.

And it certainly is! I’ve adjusted my info panel so that it’s no longer cut off and even re-enabled two mods.

Had to unsubscribe RimFlix, though. I guess I broke it by overloading it with my own stuff.

Similar to games you’ve played:
RimWorld

No shit!

Ha! I was just looking at Clanfolk yesterday & downloaded the demo. It looks super like Rimworld, but I haven’t gotten around to trying it yet.

The non-combative – at least for now – survival aspect is intriguing but I’m put off by they way those pawns hop around.
