RingDroid Users, what songs/sections are you using for ringtones and alarms?

RingDroid.

I recently set the last flute part from King Crimson’s “I Talk To the Wind” as my alarm, and it is fantastic. I used to use harsh alarm noises, then I graduated to upbeat songs in an attempt to get me up and moving, but waking up to this is the coziest wake up I’ve ever had. Listen here, from 4:35 on.

I used RingDroid to chop up the Mulatto Butts ring from FX’s Archer for a ringtone. That raises eyebrows.

Interesting program, I will have to play with it. I have a song or two I wouldn’t mind snipping bits out for ringtones.

I currently use various submarine alarm sounds as ringtones. I guarantee ‘general quarters’ can get mrAru’s feet on the floor in a couple seconds =) Got to love 20 years of pavlovian training =)

I use Pretty Handsome Awkward as my current ringtone for most callers, though I also have personalized ringtones for some of my friends and family.

I use the pirate virus.

I just use the option in my phone’s Music app to set a given tune as a ringtone (I have been known to use Audacity to edit sound files to get the chunk I want), or I import a suitable OGG file to the appropriate directory.

The first 30 seconds of The Rolling Stones’ Gimme Shelter is my cellular ringtone.

Either gets weird looks or broad smiles. If I’m in a crowd of folks of my generation ( 50 ) and they get it, I quietly step away saying, " Excuse me, Mick’s calling ".

Always good for a laugh. Waiting in the wings on my phone ( and crafted using similar software ) but unused are:

Manamana ( Sesame Street )

The Mr. Softee ice cream truck music

The beginning of the Würm section of Starship Trooper by Yes

The vocal open of " The Lion Sleeps Tonight "

Opening bars of Fanfare For The Common Man, ELP Version

The sound of breaking glass from " Another Brick In The Wall ", Pink Floyd’s The Wall. ( I used to work for a filter manufacturing company, and it amused me greatly to hear glass breaking whenever the office called  )

Hellishly fun stuff to dive in and make my own ringtones. Never been interested in having different people have their own ringtones. I’ve got caller ID, that’s enough…
