a cell phone ring tone poll (my first new thread, be gentle)

me:

black sabbath “ironman” for social callers

a very “business like” ring for work

unclviny

I’ve downloaded the five tones from Close Encounters, but I generally just use a generic ringing sound, or leave it in my pocket on vibrate. Some of those new polyphonic ring tone phones actually sound quite good.

I stick to a vibrating alert and a single beep. For the loud profiles I just use the default Nokia “low” sound; I quite like some ringtones but most seem to get very tired and gimmicky very quickly.

Day Tripper

Theme from I Dream of Genie

Theme from Magnificent Seven

I vary these up a bit, switching them around bus, personal, gen.

I sometimes set up Tubular bells 'cause no one else I know has it

I’ve got Blister In The Sun by Violent Femmes on mine. It’s not my favorite song of all time, but it was the coolest one I could get my hands on, since I have a kind of phone where you have to type in a long sequence of keystrokes to put a new tone in, and there aren’t very many to choose from.

I haven’t yet been able to afford a cell phone, but I dream of the day when I am able to get one and install Outkast’s “So Fresh, So Clean” as my ringtone.

A pretty geeky, but appropriate, ring tone for me.

Ever play GTA3? You know the ring the pager in that game has? Well, that’s my ringtone.

Well, I just got the theme to Benny Hill, which totally cracks me up. I was using Mozart 40, but I may have found its replacement.

Close Encounters
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Spider-man

and most currently

The Imperial March

The theme song from “Knight Rider” is my everyday ringtone.

When Gunslinger calls me, it plays the James Bond theme.

When my dad calls, it plays “Secret Agent Man.”

The Get Up Kids’ Mass Pike.

I love that my ring tone is a song that most people haven’t heard of.

I like the classic, simple ring tone. Phones should ring, not be freaking musical instruments. I have a particular aversion to cutesy ringtones (Close Encounters, anyone?) or ringtones based on current Top 40 hits. My aversion borders on what one might call the insanely violent. As if I haven’t been supersaturated with Kylie Minogue’s “Can’t Get You Out of My Head” enough times in every last cafe, restaurant and bar in this goddamn town, I have to hear it in the friggin tram, walking down the street, sitting in the office. I swear to God, one day I’m gonna lose it and smash every last Nokia and Ericcson to itty bitty silicon and plastic bits. Yes, doctor, I will take a chill pill. Several would do nicely.

So, yeah, it’s the simple classic ring I like.

Oh, actually Max no offense. The Close Encounters comment was not directed at you because, in fact, I had not even read your post until after I was posted. But if you do see someone losing it when your phone goes off on the bus, chances are that’d be me.

My primary ring is either The Indiana Jones Theme or The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. It depends on the mood I’m in.

However, when any of my family calls, I hear the Imperial March.

I never recognize the Crap 40 tones they advertise on the tv commercials, but I’d recognize that one.
