RIP Andre Braugher

Incidentally, how is his last name pronounced? Brower? Brawger? Brawfer? Brawer?

I always thought it was brow-er.

Yes. Awesome series. And Braugher was one of the most memorable actors in that show. Shocking.

Indeed, RIP, Mr. Braugher.

ETA: Yeah, it’s pronounced “brow-er.”

Hopefully, people who’ve never seen “Homicide: Life on the Street” will have a reason to give it a try now.

I’m on the other side of this equation. I loved Andre Braugher in Homicide and appreciated his acting in every other thing I ever saw him in as a result of it. I’ve never seen (or even heard of!) Brooklyn 99 – which I now look forward to watching at some point.

I am sorry his bright light is snuffed out so soon.

Rest in peace, Mr. Braugher.

If the first season turns you off, you might want to skip to the second or third season: the show tones down some of the more obnoxious humor by then and really finds a groove.

Thanks for the advice.

Whether I ever get the chance to see this series or not, I am going to really miss Mr. Braugher and his talent on the screen.

Let me add to the chorus: Brilliant actor, and I will miss having him act.

I never watched all of Brooklyn 99, but I found the clips I’ve seen wickedly funny. And, yes, he could do intense, too.

I hate hearing about how somebody only aged 61 dies from a brief illness.

Such as??!

All of a sudden, my normal aches and pains are magnified. I knew that crease in my earlobe was a sign of impending doom!

(The online rabble are speculating, unfortunately, about vaccines)

Impossible to tell. I ran through the possibilities. Could mean he had something like pancreatic cancer that moved rapidly and didn’t present until recently. Or maybe he had a stroke and lingered for a little while. I don’t know. If he had been rushed to the hospital for something in recent weeks I might have heard something through the grapevine and I didn’t. I just found out when he died he was living in South Orange NJ. Strangely enough I had to drive through South Orange today which is not at all usual for me.

Tribute video from B’99 – mostly touching moments.

I mean, the delivery of “Yass Queen” all by itself should have garnered him an award.

That would be great, but it’s not available anywhere, streaming or disc.

Such a loss. My wife and I loved him in “Men of a Certain Age,” and his breadth included “Glory,” and Shakespeare (going back to his Stanford U days, after a childhood of borderline poverty).

Probably because of music licensing would be my guess. Homicide always had awesome music. That’s where I first fell in love with the band Morphine.

His publicist is saying it was lung cancer.

Yes just saw that. Diagnosed a few months ago.

It’s interesting to note he was only 31 when he first played serious Detective Pembleton, while Andy Samberg was 35 when he first played immature goofball Detective Peralta.
