I don’t remember the movie, but I remember her in a Playboy bunny outfit, and she wore it well.
“A Bunny’s Tale,” from 1985; Alley was, in fact, portraying feminist journalist Gloria Steinem, who had worked as a Playboy Bunny at the New York Playboy Club for a short time in 1963,while writing a magazine article about how the Bunnies were exploited.
She was also a non-celebrity contestant on Password. She said she was an interior designer from Kansas.
Made me wonder how many contestants were budding actors.
I’ll always remember her as Virgilia Hazard from North and South (1985).
Wasn’t she also in Look WHO’s Talking with Travolta and Willis? And there was her Fat Actress autobiographical series as well.
I’m not a huge fan - I’ve only seen her on “Cheers” and I am in the Diane contingent - but I was still taken aback at the news of her death. Too young (which is a stupid saying, but it is what comes to mind).
mmm
ETA: The local newscaster just reported on the death of Kristy Alley (she said the name twice).
Then she mentioned that Alley had appeared on “Star Track”.
Was anyone else weirded out or just plain confused by the announcement of her death? https://twitter.com/kirstiealley/status/1599931870786908160/photo/1
Kirstie Alley was never named in the announcement, and some initial responders to the news were wondering who had died, who the people were signing the announcement, whether Kirstie Alley’s mom had died, etc.
Not yet mentioned among her credits, she starred in the movie Mad House in 1990 with John Larroquette.
Newscasters can be like that with pop culture. A national broadcaster once suggested that the murder-suicide of Chris Benoit was caused by his disappointment at being demoted from the Four Horsemen to ECW.
Really?
Yup. According to her Wiki page:
“In October 2020, she stated she had voted for Trump in 2016 and intended to vote for him again in 2020 because “he’s NOT a politician”.[37] She also endorsed Republican John James in the 2020 United States Senate election in Michigan.[38]”
She was also a bit of an anti-vaxxer.
Yeah, unfortunately. An article from last year, in which she says she was blackballed from Hollywood for her support of Trump.
I’ll throw in Drop Dead Gorgeous, which also starred the late Brittany Murphy.
Alley had a funny role, and did well with it. I always laugh at her staring at the wrestlers’ crotches.
I love that movie!
I said “really” meaning that should be the last thought when someone dies. Does it really matter?
Kristie was very good in Cheers. I saw a couple comedy movies with her. But don’t recall much about them.
I remember being surprised that she did pretty good on Dancing With the Stars. She partnered with Maksim Chmerkovskiy. He always got good results from his celebrities.
RIP Kristie

I said “really” meaning that should be the last thought when someone dies. Does it really matter?
Yes, it does. I don’t believe in blowing smoke up someone’s ass and pretending they’re a perfect person when someone dies.
And apparently, that’s not board policy, either, or a lot of people would have been banned when Rush Limbaugh passed away.
But I can separate the artist from the art in her case. She was brilliant in The Wrath of Khan, she was brilliant in Cheers, and she was brilliant in everything I ever saw her do.
About 15 years ago, I was on a direct flight from LA to Wichita and seated next to her in first class. I tried to give her her privacy, she was a chatterbox. We ended up talking the entire flight. She was a very down to earth person. She still maintained a home in Wichita, where she grew up. She was also instrumental in developing Wichita’s branch of Scientology. A nice woman, although a bit quirky.
Rest in peace Kirstie.
