RIP Kirstie Alley

She was my favorite Saavik. RIP Kirstie.

I don’t think it matters. We’re all human beings. We’re all flawed. I don’t necessarily think those flaws need trotted out when a person who was basically good dies. RIP, Kirstie.

I also liked Alley’s version of Saavik better than Robin Curtis’ version.

I preferred Rebecca to Diane in Cheers.

I liked Alley in Look Who’s Talking.

I also had to separate the art from the artist since she endorsed both Scientology and SCROTUS.

I also agree that this next decade will have a lot of the actors I grew up with pass away and that will make me sad.

I’d always felt sorry for Curtis, being asked to step into a role in which fans had very much liked the original actress, who had clearly made the role her own in her first appearance.

Not a huge fan. Still sad she died at what today is a relatively young age.

However, any celebrity who boosts scientology is on my black list. They can rave about how wonderful it is while trying to lure more poor suckers in. They’re treated wonderfully by the “church”…the poor suckers, not so much.

I should clarify. I like Robin Curtis in her own roles, even if she didn’t do many. I do agree that KA made Saavik great in STII and it was going to be tough to follow.

Infinitely more than Robin Curtis.

Kirstie in the final. She struggled at the beginning of the season. Her conditioning improved and she was much fitter in the final.

Looking good at 61.

RIP. Wasn’t a fan of the Rebecca Howe character but it was a thankless task for her. She had comedic talent, wish she’d gotten her own unique vehicle. That’s the business I guess.

Her Star Trek connection was a minor part of her career. I’m weary of any Star Trek connection always being front loaded in obits, even if the actor had a decades long career and many more significant/better performances. Really has soured me on the whole Star Trek universe. Other work deserves to be remembered.

I feel bad because I was a lot more sad about her passing before I found out she was an anti-vax Trumper. What does that say about me? Also, what does it say about me that someone else’s death is, to me, a statement about me? Not only that, but too, and, also-- surprised at her age because I thought she was close to my age and then realizing, Holy Shit, she IS close to my age!!!

She had a fearless streak. At the first read thru for her new role as Rebecca Howe on Cheers she came dressed as Diane Chambers (complete with blonde wig), who she was tasked with replacing, which endeared her to rest.

There’s also a scene she where she had to hide a lit cigarette in her mouth - she actually did it.

Also, wasn’t she in Summer School? Funny 80’s movie.

Oh, and for what it’s worth, during that “hot” phase she was doing a lot of cocaine. She’s credited Scientology for helping her get sober.

It’s now being reported that she died of colon cancer. That’s what killed my mother, and I can attest that it’s a truly cruel way to die.

And her diagnosis was “shortly before” her death. You never know - she may have been in denial about her symptoms, or it might have been like my BFF’s mother, who had an extremely rare type that in her case had no symptoms until it was too late to do anything beyond comfort care.

RIP, Kirstie.

People-get a colonoscopy. I’ve been told to get one for a decade and still hesitate.

If I had gotten a colonoscopy a decade earlier, they probably would not have had to remove half of mine.

She was hilarious in Sibling Rivalry.

Wow. Bummer on colon cancer for her, whatever type it was.

Turning 50 this year, I had my first colonoscopy and they had to remove a foot of my colon due to a polyp found. No carcinoma was found, thankfully! So, get your colonoscopies!

Scientology told her to take vitamins. They’re not real big on medicine.
