RO: Glenn Beck compares Utøya murder victims to Hitler Youth

If an “idiot” means someone who says things that BrainGlutton is sure must be wrong even though BrainGlutton is unable to articulate why, then apparently yes.

So it’s your contention that anyone holding Israel to higher standards than, say, Angola, is not just anti-Israel but also anti-Semitic?

…except you’ve offered exactly no support for that assertion. The nearest you came was “In my opinion, a good deal of the anti-Israel sentiment out there is just a mask for anti-Semitism” (real quote) —which is not a sufficient argument. You would need to delete “in my opinion” and replace “a good deal of” with “all of” —and that would leave behind a really stupid and offensive statement. So no dice.

That “anti-Israel” != “anti-semitic” should be too obvious to require articulation.

Not necessarily, it would depend on the context.

For example, if somebody held all the world’s counties to the same standard, except they had a much more relaxed standard for Angola, I would not conclude that they were anti-Israel or anti-Semitic.

It’s obviously a whole lot better to love Israel.

I’m getting tired of playing 20 questions. Apparently you believe that Israel was singled by these teenagers who got shot because they were anti-Semitic and therefore comparisons between them and the Hitler youth is all right.

Reading this is thread is a good way of finding out who to never take seriously as a moral human being again.

Most anti-Israel sentiment is a result of anti-Semitism. This is pretty obvious to anyone who notices the wildly disproportionate condemnation Israel receives on a regular basis. Of course, you can’t be 100% sure – it might just be a big coincidence.

That’s not true, I laid down my argument a few posts back. Essentially, anti-Semitism is the most plausible explanation for the wildly disproportionate condemnation Israel receives.

Um… did you read what I posted after that? You’ve offered a logically insufficient argument and show no inclination to come up with a better one.

(Not to mention, your premise is stupid, but other people are taking it apart better than I could.)

It may be of some interest that Glenn Beck also recently compared Angry Birds to socialism, Nazis, and socialist Nazis. Because the pigs earned the eggs through hard work, you see, and the evil socialist rainbow Nazi multiculturalist birds just want to smash them. Er, or something.

Personally I weep that anybody ever took this guy seriously. If he’s trolling (which I’m pretty sure he is), he’s hoodwinked a fair number of people I thought were intelligent; if he isn’t, well, I guess he’s this generation’s Father Coughlin. But on cocaine.

Lol, do you seriously not understand my position? Or are you merely trying to trick me into taking a less defensible position?

I think it’s reasonably clear what I was asking when I asked if Israel should be held to the same standards as other countries.

Basically yes. Well I’m not sure what you mean by “all right.” I’m not equating these kids with Hitler Youth.

Agreed.

I’d already figured that out for the cases in point in this thread (chen09 or whatever and brazil84)…

As you said, “it would depend on the context”. The context here is in the OP.

The original quote does not make clear to me what you meant by “all right.”

I really think I’m going to have to change the format of my screen name here.

Let me make it a little clearer for you: you think it’s just fine that Beck compared the teens on that camp to the Hitler youth. It’s the only reason anyone would have for coming into this thread and repeating the comparison. Well, that and trolling. But that’s not allowed so it can’t be that.

Jimmy Carter is about as antisemitic as Nentyahu (or as a Jewish Palestinian-rights activist I knew well many years ago) and he still published this.

You are a liar. We’re not even in YMMV territory here, you are a lying sack of garbage.

I think it would be more accurate to say that my position is that there is some amount of justification for the comparison. However, in this case, Beck apparently said that the camp is a “little like” Hitler Youth. And yes, I think that’s fine. If he had said it was “just like” Hitler Youth, I would have disagreed.

Out of interest, do political parties in the US have youth wings? I ask as here in Europe it seems every party does because, amazingly, some teenagers are really into politics.

You really are despicable.

ETA: By that logic, I could say that Israel is “a little like” Nazi Germany.
