**sari **- Naked ladies are interesting, but only for short bursts. In the spring, there’s tons of long leaves in a big clump - they almost look like day lily greenery, except the tips of the leaves are rounded. After a few weeks, all the green dies, and nothing is left. Then some months later, the stems suddenly appear and they bloom for a few days, then they’re gone. So they’re neat for accent plants, but you wouldn’t want to build a bed around them. They’re in the amaryllis family, FYI.
Another sleepful night, mostly. When **FCD **came in, I was dead asleep wearing my glasses and the TV was on. I don’t think I’ve ever done that before! Then I woke at 5 (gee, it wasn’t long ago that it was light out at 5!!) for a quick potty break, then back to snooze till 6:30. I don’t know why I was so tired yesterday - I hardly did anything. Guess it was cumulative. Anyway, I’m up and feeling human.
Today, I’ll do some laundry and I plan to play in clay for a while. I have a few new things I want to try out. It’s gonna be hot and ick, so a good day to spend in the cool of the basement.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 73 Amurrkin out and partly cloudy with a predicted high of 93 and partly cloudy with a chance of rain. Rah. Today’s big plan is deheathenization with ush duty, grabbin’ a burger for N.O.L. and not much else. Laziness shall ensue.
OK that’s all I got. I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Also, purtification for deheathenization must commence at some point.
We had a McBreakfast. I’ve stripped and remade the bed and I’ve got a load of clothes in the washer. Since **FCD **has been mostly just wearing shorts and t-shirts this past week, I was able to get everything in a single load. Well, except the sheets - I’ll wash them next.
We deheathenated, let the ugly little red haired girl make N.O.L. and I managed ush duties once again without causin’ major havoc. A win-win day so far. Next up nappage cause I’s tahrd.
Good clean living pays off again! Not 10 minutes after I brought in my laundry, the sky opened for a 3-minute downpour. It’s now stopped raining (dammit) but at least my clothes are all fresh, dry, and put away.
I don’t feel like making supper. Where should we go to eat?
I got a four hour nap, took a friend to JFK (since the LIRR is FUBAR this weekend) and am hang a Blood Orange Pale Ale. Now it’s time for the farewell dinner at P.F. Change. Goodbyes suck.
Couldn’t mow the lawn this morning (damp from a bit of rain last evening) so of course I went out about 2PM with the sun right overhead (90F) and no clouds in the sky. Front yard is mowed, but the backyard is going to wait for a couple more hours till the sun is on the other side of the roof.
We let Red Robin feed us. Then we stopped in WalMart for dog kibbles - as usual, they didn’t have nearly enough cashiers on duty. But I got the critter stuff I needed, so there’s that.
The rest of the evening shall be chillage. And I get to go back to work tomorrow - rah.
Home and catching up. If anyone needs hugs help yourself to a bunch from us.
Nice trip but hotter than Hades. Went to visit a buddy’s motorcycle shop and museum, went to Knoebels for most of two days - one for our annual family invasion and once for Pride Day - visited some more relatives along the way and petted many dogs and a couple cats. All in all busy but much fun was had. And the Old Wench was feeling better enough to have many coaster rides. So I am much pleased.
TWPTB say we have rain/tstorms/apocalypse on the way. ‘Tis lookin’ stormy southwest of here which is where most of our storms come from so who knows. Other than that, grilled cheese sammiches and milk for dindin cause our inner seven year old boys were hongry.
I went into the city to heathenize today. Our program was on the maker movement and several of us had display space. When the speaker saw one of the layouts in the album that I took, he asked whether my dad would be interested in mentoring people in machine shop and wood working skills at the local makerspace. I had to explain that Dad was nearly 80 and lived 400 miles north of here. He then approached me about teaching a papercraft class. I just may do it.
Stopped at Tar-zhay on the way home for a tub mat so’s I don’t slip and bust my butt.
Breakfasts/lunches are prepped for irk next week and I’m having leftover beastloaf for supper.
The sprog and I had a great time yesterday. We went to Lehigh Gorge, which is a state park in the Poconos. We started at Rockport and got out at Glen Onoko. That is a LOT of paddling. I wasn’t torched too badly, just on my face and thighs, but the sprog got it worse than I did, poor kid. He still had a great time dumping water on Mom. We lost the Scoutmaster and another passenger on the raft, but we left with the same people we came with, so that worked out. I woke up this morning feeling very sore.
After deheathenizing at Weight Watchers (where I lost a quarter of a pound), I went shopping. Since we still have all of our packaged food and several appliances still at the old house, I focused on refrigerated and frozen food. I got chicken breasts, a package of ground turkey, lunches for the week, and cereal. Wegmans, where I prefer to shop, has three dozen eggs on sale for two bucks, so I can see us having breakfast for dinner at least once this week and a dozen boiled eggs for snacking.
So tonight I made a real fancy turkey dinner. I started on Friday by cutting the breast meat away from the bones and tying them into a nice even roast with twine and brining them, then roasting the bones and simmering them down into a b-e-a-YOOtiful gelatinous stock and reserving the skin. Today I vacuum sealed the breast roast and cooked it sous vide while making an amazing gravy and roasting the skin into a gorgeous mahogany colored sheet of crispy goodness. I rounded it out with mashed potatoes and green beans and we drank 3 buck Chuck and Martinelli’s for the kids.
After we finished eating I pulled the wishbone with the Mrs and the damn thing broke in 3 pieces! We both lost!
Lazy day. Did the usual Olympics watching, mostly golf as my nephew is Bubba’s caddie. Normally he is his accountant but since Bubba’s regular caddie didn’t go to Rio because of Zika concerns the sub was my kinfolk. Kinda cool.
Made a big ole pot of Beef Stew which was very good and napped. Cannot believe the weekend is gone. Since we had such a great time last night at the theatre I have already purchased tickets for a concert in March. It is Buckwheat Zydeco. Lord willing we are still alive and kicking then. Leon Russell is there in November and I am considering buying tickets for that one. Leon is getting up there in age though. Hell of a pianist. The venue is tiny with very good acoustics. We also had the best meal in ages before the show. I may have to try this getting out of the house thing more often.
