It took me a minute, too, Nava, since in my mind my username is a character in Battlestar Galactica.
My 78-year-old mom and I will be going on a road trip from Seattle to San Jose in September. We haven’t done one in a long time! I don’t know why not. I wish my SO could come but someone needs to take care of the cats!
But possibly more an industrial/agricultural version. Most made for household use would be enameled or made from a metal other than tin; say something like copper.
Despite threats of rain, got my first soccer practice in, 9 of 10 boys showed up and I don’t think I’ve screwed up anything…yet (it was the first practice, after all). The kids look pretty fit and there wasn’t much messing around, mostly because they are still strangers to each other and need a few weeks to get comfortable in being their normal selves. Still, it gets me out of the house and engages both my body and brain for a couple of hours.
But now feeling like a Norse God…Thor all over. I’d better sleep good tonight.
My Zune found its way into the wash, where it died. At least it was clean when it died.
My attitude today sucked. I need a lengthy vacation away from all responsibility. Maybe I should go to one of those all-inclusive resorts where I don’t have to think about cooking or working or cleaning or any of the other million things that I have to do.
This weekend, I think I’m going to go all-out and make a potato kugel. Grating potato and onion will be good for me, I think.
Personally I think gotti got that precious little Pomeranian he’s always wanted and has spent the day shoppin’ for matchin’ outfits for him and the dawg.
And on that note I believe I shall retire to the boudoir. Can’t believe how an afternoon of mostly slackin’ can wear one out!
The urge to get this piercing bobbed up to the top of my mind about a week ago. Normally, I’m not terribly emotionally driven - my career as a security analyst fits my personality perfectly - but one morning “I need a septum piercing!” pops up and it was driving me crazy why I was thinking such things. “Want” I could deal with, but the voices in my head were saying “NEED!”
Eventually, I realized that it’s a tribute to DH as he had a septum piercing with a tusk when we met.
So… this afternoon, I went and got an 8 gauge septum ring added to my schnozz.
Your dinner sounds good, and can you be persuaded to upload some cookies? After dealing with the bellowing, crude morons at work, I now wish I had thought to get some.
The bellowing, crude morons, BTW, are my co-irkers. Seems unfair that if I started gagging and/or tasing them to shut them up so I can do my actual job without having to crank my phone volume so high that I’m actually worried about damaging my hearing, I’d be the one getting in trouble.
Not the one my mom inherited from her mom, who inherited it from her mom. But mom’s is a basket with a handle, nowadays we mostly use it to drain preserved beans of their liquid.
I know the way to San Jose! I drove there from SF a couple of years ago on a road trip involving Yosemite. Then there was the road trip earlier this year around Maui and Hawaii’s Big Island. And the road trip from Vancouver to Calgary via Banff and Jasper. And the road trip from LA to Seattle…
This next trip does not involve any driving, or at least there’s none planned so far. We’re heading to San Diego, flying to Reno, going by bus to south Lake Tahoe, then by train back to San Francisco, and then on to San Jose before we fly home. So far the concept of car rental hasn’t been mentioned, but you never know. I carry my driving licence for ID purposes so I just need to apply to DVLA (our equivalent of your DMV) for a bit of paper to prove I’ve got no driving convictions.
In other news, we are having a Home Office audit of our overseas visa students so we are preparing all our files for that. Big project, lots of work to do and not enough time or people to get it done!
Back in February (2016), I drove from Atlanta to Pittsburgh. My best friend was transferred there last August and bought a house. He needed help with some projects in and around his new house, as well as someone to supervise the painters he had hired. He had to work most of the time (was out of town overnight five of the days I was there). I thought about flying up and renting a car, but the airfare at that time and renting a car for 12 days would have cost over $900.
I decided that driving my 2012 Mazda CX-9 (averaged 17.4mpg for the trip) would be much cheaper. It was my first 500+ mile road trip in at least 15 years (684 miles one-way). It was only supposed to be a 10-11 hour drive, but it took me over 20 hours (split across two days) to make it there! It started snowing as I neared the TN/VA border and got much heavier as I got into VA. I ended up in a ‘white-out’ (around 11pm) and decided it was time to hang it up for the night. The next day was slow going, but most of the trek thru WV wasn’t bad.
I managed the return trip in 9hrs 42mins thanks to clear weather and light traffic. The lack of cops on the highway didn’t hurt either.
I’m thinking about trying the trip again in late October or early November of this year. There were some sites of interest that I missed due to the weather. If it would be as quick and uneventful as my return trip in February, I think it would be fun…
Good morning! For the first time in a while, I slept thru the night - yay! OK, at one point, I do remember waking and thinking “Do not look at the clock!” so I didn’t, and when I finally did wake and look at the clock, it was 2 minutes before my alarm, so yay! My poor sweetie, on the other hand, was up all night. I think it was because of the 3 or 4 caffeinated sodas he drank last night. He was crawling back in to bed when I left.
I swear, my idiot boss is about to push me off the deep end. He gave me a very minor design task yesterday. I gave it back to him to review. He changed it completely because I didn’t do it the way he would have done it - mostly because his way is dumb! Instead of having a support attached at 2 ends, he wants a cantilevered beam with a flange. A flat-out bad design which will be difficult to install. What an idiot!
I’m giving serious thought to just quitting. I hate to give up a well-paying, easy job, but I’m beginning to see why so many others have quit.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 74 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of ONLY 84 with rain/tstorms/apocalypse for the day. The weather PTB keep sayin’ we’ll get hit with some of the rain from the Gulf Coast but so far no appreciable rain has happened at all. We shall see. Today’s big plan is to slow roast a brisket and make a run to Tarjay bein’ as Tarjay has Coke products on sale. I foresee vacuumin’ and dustin’ da cave as well. Fun times!
OK I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then I suppose I should purtify and betake myself to Tarjay.
First missed bus of the school year. I knew it was a bad idea to let Girl 2.0 go to the movies last night, even if it was, technically, homework (review for the student newspaper.) Next time, it’s a matinee or on a weekend.
Three more days until The Boy moves out. Living room looks like a war zone.
Well, hell! If you’re gonna go all bilingual on us! Sheesh!
I can’t believe you all let this one slide without making comments about red being some brand of simian!
