Robert Altman is a Damn Fool

http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/entertainment/film/newsid_1604000/1604151.stm

What a moron. Robert, I don’t know what kind of damn movies you’ve been watching, but I have never seen one remotely like a “training film.” Screw you.

From watching your latest pile of shit, Dr. T and the Women, I have learned to be a misogynist fuckwad. Couldn’t have done it without you, bub.

Oh yes, blame the movies – it’s all Hollywood’s fault.

Can’t believe Altman said something so stupid. You’d think he’d have a better grasp of reality than that.

I read the same story earlier and thought about dedicating a pit thread to the dipshit myself. This will just fuel the fires under the modern day Tippa Gores(or she still banging on about this shit).
Pure muppetry. Robert ya old fart you should be ashamed of yourself. add disapointed smiley here

Gee, I don’t know. We could sure clean house with Robert’s logic. Hell, we’re doing it right now:

Problem: A small but highly visible percentage of traffic fatalities are caused by drunk drivers.

Solution: Hunt down and punish anyone who drinks anything and gets behind the wheel.
Problem: A small percentage of computer users encrypt their correspondence in order to perform criminal acts.

Solution: Restrict file encryption for everyone.
Problem: A small percentage of kids who play violent video games shoot up their schools.

Solution: Sue the makers of violent video games.
Problem: A small percentage of people who see films which depict mass destruction are inspired to commit acts of mass destruction.

Mr. Altman’s Solution: Ban mass destruction from films.
So, by this logic…

Problem: A small percentage of followers of a particular religion kill thousands of innocent people in violent acts.

Solution…?

Sorry, all you followers of Allah, but you know how it goes–one bad apple and all that. Time to turn in the headgear.

In the meantime, we here in America will be following the advice of Matt Groenig and burning down our astronomical observatories so that we don’t get hit by a giant asteroid.

Don’t forget that Dan Quayle started this by blaming the LA riots on “Murphy Brown,” and that when Bob Dole made his speech attacking “Natural Born Killers” for not pushing “family values” (while praising Arnold Schwarzenneger’s “True Lies”,)he was praised by fellow Republicans for having jump-started his campaign for President, and having delivered a speech that the Democrats could not answer. Tipper and Altman hardly have a monopoly on this. JDM

Why is Altman still in America? I thought he was running away to France now that Bush won the election?

OK, I realize this isn’t GD, but I gotta roto-till this garden of weeds…

  1. Dan Quayle did come down hard on Murphy Brown… for promoting the carefree approach of rich single women having trophy children without considering the need of these children to have a real home, not a string of nannies.

  2. IANAChristian (or any other religious persuasion), but if I were, and I saw Natural Born Killers, I’d be seeing the Antichrist too! The “family values” in question are quite different between the typical Schwarzenegger flick and that mind-fuck.

  3. If you want to discuss Comstockery, look no further then Joe Lieberman.

You are really stretching it to equate the idiocy of Altman with a legitimately perceived grievance at the ever-astounding ability of the entertainment industry to apply the nipple clamps to the battery one more time to get the corpse of the jaded American public to spasmodically reach for its wallets to see the latest freak show.

Maybe he called it in from France  - I know that if I could afford it, I would move somewhere else while W is President. (probably not France, though - Australia?? Brunei??)

And, The_Raven, I think there is plenty of this in all political parties - Pat Buchanan, Jerry Falwell, Dan Quayle’s “Family Values”, The Moral Majority, as well as Joe Lieberman and other Democrats.

I can’t let this one pass. One-third is not a “small percentage” especially when you consider that this is down from one-half before we started “hunting down and punishing” those who drive drunk. You can object to the philosophy, but please don’t lie.

Yeah, Robert. That’s all this country needs is good, thoughtful pieces of art like DR. T, COOKIE’S FORTUNE and BEYOND THERAPY. Pardon me while I vomit. I don’t mind that he wants to be considered the anti-Spielberg, but would it fucking kill him to make a decent movie more than once every ten years?

This is the one that gets me.

'Cause only creative movie people can think of stuff. Everybody else are mindless chimps, imitating what they see on the screen.

Since we’re talking about directors making idiotic comments about the terrorist attacks, I present: Oliver Stone. Stone said that the mediocrity of flims and corporate control of the film industry is partly to blame for the terrorist attacks. According to Stone, the attack occurred as a “revolt” against the “new world order” of corporate conglomerates.

Stone went on to say:

The “thirteenth month”? He’s now certifiably insane (and looks suspiciously like some posters on SDMB).

The never-boring Christopher Hitchens replied:

I don’t really have an opinion on that but I would like to declare “nipple clamps” the phrase of the day.

Brrr. Lousy Smarch weather!

ignatzmouse: read this carefully, come back here and call me a liar again, buddy.

Have you read this page carefully? If you had, you would realize that the speaker never says, “Drunk driving causes a small fraction of accidents” he says that drunk drivers with a BAC of above .14 percent are implicated in the majority of alcohol related accidents. In addition, he notes that correlation is not necessarily causation, but still does not argue that repeat offenders do not cause a substantial percentage of accidents.

Learn how to read, Buddy.

From the NHTSA:

(emphasis mine)

So, since you were referring to fatalities (“A small but highly visible percentage of traffic fatalities are caused by drunk drivers…”) then you are wrong.

Liar, liar, liar…

Actually he’ll be here at Oxford tomorrow night to speak at the Union; so I guess he has fled, for the time being at least, to plug his next film. Anyone have a good, zinging question I should ask him should I get a chance to grill him during the Q&A?

To atone for bringing us Altman, the Union will be featuring Jenna Jameson on a panel in a couple weeks to debate privacy rights regarding internet porn. Mmmm…

–peepthis, who’s upset that Trey Parker & Matt Stone had to cancel for tonight’s debate on Who’s Funnier: Brits or Americans?

You would believe it, if you’d ever seen “Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean.”

That page, and its associated pages, points out that only 10-15 percent of all trafic fatalities are alcohol caused, and that as many as half of those fatalities are single-car accidents. It also points out that the term “alcohol related” has absolutely nothing to do with whether or not drunk driving caused the accident. It is instead used to inflate the number of traffic deaths attributed to drinking and driving.

The term “alcohol-related” is much akin to the term “fucking assholes.”

There are two “fucking assholes” in this thread, but the thread was not caused or even significantly contributed to by the “fucking assholes.” Rather, the “fucking assholes” simply happened to be at the scene.
