I have been trying to be a better person, trying to focus more on positive things than negative things, but these two have tested me. I simply don’t have the words to describe how utterly disgusted I am with these two. I don’t consider myself a Christian and I am still horrified that they pretend to speak for Christians. And I am horrified that there are peopel who think that they do. They, to me, represent everything wrong with this country, from their medieval religious views (meaning not thet religion is a medieval concept, but their concept of it is) to their intolerance of others to their absolute petrifying fear of change. A civilized, rational society would have taken the microphone away from these jackasses long ago instead of funding them. They are a blight on this nation and every four years it absolutely enrages me that people go to them for approval.
I do not believe in hell but if making it exist will result in casting them into it for their unbridled hatred and hypocracy, then I’m all for it.
Isn’t it amazing that something I’ve been saying for years is now obvious? Falwell et al are not against a theocracy. They just want to be the ones in charge.
[ul][li]Robbie’s “apology” condemned people for sinning.[/li][li]Bearing false witness is a sin.[/li][li]Robbie stated (“witnessed”) that the United States was founded on Christianity.[/li][li]The fact of the matter is that the US was not.[/li][li]Robbie also claimed that the terrorist attack was because of the sin of Americans.[/li][li]Robbie is an American.[/ul][/li]
Therefore Robbie is guilty of the terrorist attack. Call him up and ask him why he murdered all those people!
This terrorism shit must be bringing out my better side, first Johnny L.A. puts me in his sig, now I’ve managed to impress Monty. I wonder if the kicking Pat & Jerry square in the 'nards would get me sainted?
Well, I’m glad he finally came to his senses about Rehnquist, Scalia, etc!!

Thank you for that quote – which summarizes what I’ve been saying around here from time to time in the past. These guys are werewolves in shepherds’ clothing.
Mars Horizon:
You mean having Wildest Bill explain to you about the evils of the ACLU hadn’t convinced you?

Re Falwell and Tinky Winky’s alleged gayness
The press erroneously attributed that statement to Falwell, and it’s taken on the status of an urban legend. What actually happened was that in one of Jerry’s newsletters sent to the faithful, a staffer at his Lynchburg HQ, without Jerry’s knowledge, wrote a filler piece which pointed out the purple color, inverted-triangle head growth (antenna?), and apparent purse of Tinky Winky, the Teletubby in question, as things which Us Evil Liberals were doing to “foster the acceptance by children of the perverted homosexual lifestyle as a legitimate choice” (quote is approximate, not accurate). First J.F. knew about this is when a reporter asked him about it after reading the newsletter. It sounds so much like something he’d come off with that the story keeps circulating, but in point of fact he himself did not.
(Not that I’m thrilled about bearing witness as to a stupidity Jerry F. did not commit…)
Yeah, how could anyone have gotten that idea? Oh, maybe it was when he said:
Or how about this bon mot (emphasis mine):
Weaselly little asshole. What a bald faced lie. I’m left with the feeling that he meant that apology as much as ex- girlfriends meant it that “size doesn’t matter.”
Umm… not that they ever said that to me of course.
I thought after seeing the events I saw on television on Tuesday that I had all the emotion drained from me. I was wrong.
I truly feel hate toward these two men. It is blind rage. I wish they could both drown in a tub of puss, shit, piss and any other substances that so revolt real human beings, those two holy men would just lie there for months and rot away. My only worry would be that they would draw flies and maybe those insects would be contaminated.
Within the last hour I heard an interview on NPR with a gentleman whose name I think is Dockterow (I am sure that is misspelled). He is, I think, a professor of religion or philosophy at one of the great universities. He was talking about the nature of radical religious sects and suggesting that this past weeks events are illustrative of the out break of a war between rational, Post-enlightenment, secular Western culture and Pre-enlightenment culture in the Near and Middle East based upon sacred ancient writings that provide infallible answers and are not to be questioned. As highbrow and academic as that might be, he was determined to say something about Brothers Fallwell and Robertson. What I think he said is worth repeating.
What F. and R. have done is to say that the criminals who hijacked the four aircraft on Tuesday were working the will of God and were in there act the instruments of God. F. and R. have honored the lives of some 5000 innocents by granting some sort of sainthood to their murderers. If F. and R. have a trace of religious belief, understanding and faith between them, let alone any sense of humanity and decency, both of them will fall on their knees and beg the Great God Almighty they claim to serve for forgiveness. Mr. Dockterow can see little difference between Brothers F. and R. and the Islamic radicals who we can think were the instigation of this obscene horror.
OK, I’ve got my steel-toed boots on. Who knows just where these two losers keep their broadcasting studio? I wanna catch them while they’re on-air. Wouldn’t want to keep this a private pleasure…
Falwell’s weak retraction now makes me despise him more than the actual terrorists. They at least believe in their cause, no matter how nefarious it might be. They aren’t going to pretend to change their views to appease the people who might send them money. And they at least don’t enjoy the liberties of the country they seem to hate.
And while the terrorists caused this destruction, I find it unthinkable that anyone could look around and say, “What this situation really could use right now is more hatred and intolerance, particularly of a pseudo-religious nature. We could really use another scoop of fanatical devotion contrary to the beliefs it is supposedly espousing.”
I am happy that the majority of Americans have acted in an honorable and responsible way throughout this, despite every reason not to. It pains me that these two public figures, when given the chance, chose to add more fuel of hatred to the fire rather than some level of comfort.
Sounds like a party! I don’t want to be selfish, so how about a Loony-Fundy Nut-Kicking DopeFest? Everyone’s invited! Beer and hotdogs for everyone while they wait in line for their turn!
[sub]And me being Born Again, no less! Good Lord and Sweet Jesus, I never thought I’d find a fundy so reprehensable as these two![/sub]
Washington, D. C. was burned to the ground in 1814, after Falwell’s claim of 1812. In addition, there was the aforementioned attack on Pearl Harbor. Though not a state, Hawaii was a US territory at the time, making it American soil. At the beginning of WW2, the Philippines were a US possession, and contained one of the largest US naval bases in the Pacific, so the Japanese invasion could be considered an attack on American soil, though this one is admittedly, iffy. The bombing of the WTC in the early 90’s, would definitely count. In addition, embassies are considered the soil of their home countries, so the attacks on US embassies in northern Africa in the 90’s and Iran in 1980 were attacks on US soil. There are probably others I can’t think of right now.
Well, the Japanese did send across those balloon bombs during WWII, too. Some of them even did some damage, so I guess that counts.
Also, if you go to the 700 Club’s web site, you’ll find that a Real Video of the entire show (Thursday Morning 700 Club) is still available there. Falwell’s comments come between 45 and 50 minutes into the show. Having watched some of it, I can promise you that Robertson had already been saying much the same thing at the beginning of the show.
They deserve each other. I don’t expect this to have much effect though, since those who believe them will probably continue to do so, singing “Amen” all the way.
Like the Japanese occupation of Attu and Kiska? part of the Aluetian island chain in Alaska?
As for the FundaLooney Nut-Kicking DopeFest[sup]tm[/sup], I think we’ll split it into two parties, to avoid long lines and excessive crowding. Gotta make sure everyone gets a shot…
