The mentality baffles me. Even IF Obama went after guns in his second term he’d need to get past congress and, perhaps, the Supreme Court. Both of which are substantial hurdles. And even IF he could do all that it’d take months to years to sort out. Obama cannot wake up one morning and declare guns are illegal and POOF it happens. There’d be lots of time to see the train coming and do something about it.
Rationality seems to be in short supply for a lot of these people.
They see the president as having a bunch of buttons and dials on his desk. One button launches the nukes, another makes guns illegal, and there’s a dial where he sets the gas prices. More dials for inflation and unemployment.
I honestly think many of them are rational, but they have bad information. They are basing their actions on what they think the world is, not what it actually is.
If they think Obama will magic guns away, they don’t understand how limited his power is because they hear over and over again about how he can do it. The right-wing echo chamber is a powerful beast. Look at the sway it has over Clothy and Shodan. Both of those dudes don’t come across as actually stupid, but they honestly believe drivel. And because they think their fake-facts are true, they lash out at the people they think are trying to attack them.
It’s kind of hard to terrify people over a re-election campaign. What are you going to say?
“For God’s sake, America, wake up! Barack Obama had no sooner set foot in the Oval Office, then he issued an Executive Order authorizing a National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform! And you know what happened then! Ten months later that commission released its report! Do we want something like that to happen again in 2013?”
He thinks he’s being investigated for talking truth to power but he never explains if this truth involves killing the president or killing himself. He needs to clarify his position. Perhaps if he said something like, “Wang dang dilly, love that underage poontang! There’s an arrow in my pork chop! Dang varmint hootenoggies!”

To even us supporters of gun rights, is it still in doubt that the NRA isn’t in the gun-Rights business, rather than the Keeping the NRA In Business business?
In all organizations like this, membership falls into two catagories: Cynical Opportunist and Useful Idiot. Guess into which one Ted Nugent fits?
As I noted upthread, I have a very low opinion of Ted Nugent and I wish he would go away. Further, I will note that Obama has done nothing at all WRT to gun regulations. However, the paranoia over potential unilateral anti-gun activity by a POTUS is not entirely without basis.
As the head of the executive branch, he can issue executive orders that pro-gun people will find odious and for which there is no recourse. Other presidents have done so. He can ban importation of guns and/or ammunition from foreign nations. It is because of such an order that Chinese guns, save for a couple of shotguns, are no longer sold in the US though they are freely bought and sold in Canada. He can order the BATFE to interpret regulations in the strictest possible way; this becomes important when you consider that the BATFE can restrict firearms based on whether or not they have a “sporting purpose” and they are the ones who get to decide what a “sporting purpose” is. Under his orders they can, through licensing regs, reduce the number of retail outlets for firearms.
I am not saying he would do any of these things, simply that they have been done by previous presidents.
Dammit. Now I have a shitty Ted Nugent song in my head. He can fuck off for that alone. I hope if the SS (!) interviews him, he gets scared and pees his pants (by accident, not because he thinks he can get out of it because of that).
Just to add to the wonder that is Ted Nugent, a few years back when he opened for some other band, he went off on a tirade about the local sheriffs office and was saying we should all go down there together and…do something, I don’t remember if he said shoot them or just implied violence of some sort.
I didn’t know he was a nutjob before that, and at the time I thought he was just trying to get crowd approval in some inappropriate way.
And Lord knows if there’s one thing God-fearing, red-blooded, red state Americans hate with a fury, it’s being deprived of their Chinese imports and forced to buy American.
Well, I owned a couple Chinese-made guns and was not overwhelmed by their quality. It was largely a non-issue to me when they were banned from importation. The most I can say for them was that they were inexpensive and could be used as the basis for a project gun. OTOH, there are some very interesting, good quality guns from Israel, Australia, and several other countries that were similarly banned. The arbitrariness of how these decisions are made boggles the mind. I can’t buy a Tavor or a Gailil frm Israel or a Dragunov from Russia, but I could buy (if I wanted them which I don’t) stacks of indifferently made AK-clones from Romania. It is this very arbitrariness that irritates a fellow.
