Rogue One - seen it thread. (open spoilers)

If you’ve played Watch Dogs 2 just before seeing this movie, did you see the progress indicators in your mind?

Marcus: All right, I got it.
Wrench: Now, climb to the top of the radio tower and align the antenna.

Did anyone else think that the planet with the shield that has a gate that you need a code to open was a reference to Spaceballs?

Well, I didn’t until now…

:stuck_out_tongue:

That’s beautiful. A Dick Van Patten CGI cameo would have been perfect.

Another thing I haven’t seen mentioned here as a shout-out in relation to what I mentioned above: they have to use a code and are worried it might not be valid any more, much like how in one of the original movies (going to land on Endor I think) someone says “It’s an older code, but it checks out” when the Rebels again use a stolen imperial shuttle.

Oh Shit! There goes the planet…

Yes. And Vader gives the order to detain it or something and goes to check it out himself because he can feel Luke’s presence on it.

OK wise guys the (estate of Peter Cushing) and Carrie Fisher were thanked in the credits.

A lot of folks liked this better than The Force Awakens. Other than it was too much like a New Hope I think I prefer TFA. (A death star or something like it are in III (at least it is mentioned), IV, VI, VII, and R1).

I really like the blind monk. I know the EU talks about force sensitive (but not Jedi or Sith) folks – nice to have a canon reference. (are all of his fellow monks blind?) (I would possibly count Maz Katana as force sensitive as well)

Blue Leader: “Blue 2, 3, 4 & 5: lets open that gate!”

Ummmmm… yeah. The phrasing of my question clearly indicates a current knowledge of the naval term. I said I had never heard it as a naval term and asked if anyone else had never heard the naval term.

I was thrown when the term was used in the movie because the most immediate reference that came to mind was the one I’m familiar with. Because it sounded so dumb to me in the moment, it jarred me out of the film for a split second, during which I said to myself, “Heh, probably also a naval term.” Thinking about it after the film, I looked it up and confirmed my suspicion then posted here asking if anyone else had been unfamiliar with the term.

Of course, it should be implied that people like you who were already familiar with the term are way cooler than people like me who were not. I apologize for leaving your coolness unspoken but implied rather than expressing in descriptive terms just how much cooler you are.

Would that it were so simple.

Leia’s ship has at least three commonly known names: The Blockade Runner; The Correllian Corvette; and The Tantive IV. Believe me, we are all aware how far from cool it is to know this stuff, and it’s certainly fine for anyone to not know.

Oops, thank you, stupid memory :smack:

The reason they sent Luke to Tattoine was since they figured that Darth Vader would never visit it again, too many bad memories.

Yet Vader built a castle where he had even worse memories, i.e Mustafar. That theory now has (even more) holes in it.

According to Wookieepedia, the new EU material for Rogue One confirms, as speculated above, that Palpatine ordered Vader to build his sanctum on Mustafar. Vader’s fear and hatred are what drove him to the Dark Side in the first place, and it’s likely that being forced to reside there constantly reinforces those feelings in him.

What trailers were attached to your viewing? I had:
The Mummy
The Space Between Us
Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2
Valerian and the City of 1000 planets
Logan
Dunkirk

The reason they stated in RoTS was that he had actual (step) relatives there, Owen and Beru.

Obi-Wan: And what of the boy?

Yoda: To Tatooine. To his family, send him.

Obi-Wan: I will take the child and watch over him.

I can’t find it, but isn’t there an xkcd that references this? Something like “Whats a millennium falcon?” and they explain millennium but then the punchline is “Yeah, but what’s a falcon?”

There’s … You got crickets and it’s quiet, there’s no place to walk after dinner, and there’s the screens with the dead moths behind them… and you got the-the Manson family possibly…
