"rolleyes" = disorderly conduct?

be thankful they don’t have the Picard face palm here.

It’s even more insulting then roll eyes.

face palm is the ultimate F. U. on the boards.

I am not familiar with that term.

I think using smilies is akin to quoting verbatim SNL or Monty Python catch phrases and thinking you are being witty.

Do you want to educate me about what face palm means or complain?

face palm - means someone said something so stupid that it’s embarrassing and not worth commenting on.

It’s often used as a single word response. Very similar to roll eyes.
on some boards this image is an emoticon.

People object to it’s use because it adds nothing to the debate. It’s like telling someone they are an idiot and hanging up the phone.

“Dumb Insolence” is the UK equivalent.
I was always good at that.

As we get older, we do tend to forget that we knew absolutely everything about life when we were sixteen.

If it’s any consolation, I was being satirical when I wrote that. I thought it would be more obvious than it was looking back on it now.

In the real world making that expression at someone is pretty rude. While it doesn’t enrage me when someone uses it here it doesn’t exactly endear them to me when they use it in reply to something I wrote. (Yeah, invitation for everyone to use it here in this thread. Go ahead.)

In spite of what I just typed there are times when rolling your eyes and sighing are appropriate responses. Honestly, from the article it looks like the eye roller in question is on the opposite side of some council members and they just wanted a reason to eject her.

I imagine it would have to be one hell of an eye roll/sigh combo to meet the requirements of disorderly conduct.

Odesio

I’m a big fan of the French gesture where one pulls their lower eyelid down with their index finger. “I see through you.”

I’ve spent a lot of time and energy trying to forget my attitudes and actions when I was 16.

I remember a scene in the sci-fi classic Robot Jox where Achilles (the last surviving member on an older team of American jox) gave this gesture to Alexander (the last surviving member of the Russian team) during some meeting. Alexander (in classic 80’s hollywood Russian style) proceeded to try and tear his way across the room like an angry bull, with everybody holding him back.

At the time, I figured the insult was that Achilles seemed to do the gesture with his middle finger. Maybe they were going for an added subtle insult gesture on top of the obvious one?
