So what? It was one dumb comment in a completely different thread. Are we seriously going to impose that sort of standard, because if so I’m pretty fucked - as are you and pretty much everyone else.
If I wanted to convey the image of an asshole, it would be far more effective to call myself Oakminster2
<coughMichaelMoorecough>
And in general I give you Limousine Liberals. There may be far more right-wing ones but the left are not entirely immune.
Wow. Just wow. Come out swinging rather than hear. It’s so you!
We are not immune to human failings, it’s only that we don’t depend upon them.
Also, I do think it’s a different level of condescension as previously noted: the Left complains that the working (and non-working) class vote against their own interests, whereas the Right complain that they vote against the Right’s own interests (which are of course also in the best interest of the poor in a trickle-down sort of way).
By way of anecdotal example, I have a niece who complains bitterly about Obama’s policies and Obamacare in particular, and how things will get better for her when the Republicans are back in office. She’s on WIC with two kids and an unemployed husband, living in a trailer park. I have mentioned (with cites) that the people she wants to vote for would cut her benefits, raise her taxes, make it harder for her children to get medical care and in general consider her to be an “animal” and a “parasite”, but she can’t be swayed.
Michael Moore is a great American patriot. I burst with pride whenever I see him in a Spartan cap.
As for limousine liberals, I’m not concerned. Moore is hardly the only celebrity to take limos around NYC. As far as Gore, if he can get people to act on global warming, I’ll overlook his larger than average carbon footprint.
It would be difficult, in any case, for anyone to top the utter repulsiveness of this limousine liberal:
Talk about your appropriate surnames, especially given who she got it from.
Says the man whose username is only one letter away from bigot. Methinks the gentleman doth protest too much!
The left definitely has some incredible assholes, including on this board.
This article, though, is interesting because it plays into the Romney narrative. I don’t think the media is partisan in the way people on both sides think of partisanship. I think the media loves irony (and thinks the lyrics to Alannis Morissette songs are reference works) and loves narratives, which means that once a candidate or a party gets something pinned on them, they are going to run and run and run with it.
And Romney has been pinned, but good, with the out-of-touch label. Not much he can do but try to change the topic and tell his supporters to shut the fuck up.
Well I’ll be damned. I need to thank this woman for educating me.
I had no idea that it was Barack Obama that was hurting me.
Here I thought we were being hurt by rich people demanding endless tax cuts and demanding that we stop persecuting them through regulations that prevented them from their god given rights to commit economic crimes without fear of sanction!
Wow. I…I need to think about this.
I think this is more to highlight the special pleading of the right. Endless self-interest is good for the community. Unless one wants an increase in unemployment benefits, rather than a reduction in corporate tax, since the former would be acting in one’s self-interest.
There’s definitely some special pleading going on here.
When the right does it, they’re poopy-pants.
When the left does it, it’s only because the right makes them do it.
The progress we seek is hindered, impaired and thwarted by the right. If they won’t make the necessary changes, that just leaves us, yes? So, we either confront them, or give up. They are not making us do it, but if they would do it, we wouldn’t have to, would we?
Besides, liberal hypocrisy belongs to Bricker. You have to send him a nickel. Wait, you didn’t actually use the phrase, so you might be on safe ground. But at least blow him a kiss.
I just farted. Does that count?
So, John, when you criticize the level of the journalism, you’re holding them to the US Magazine standard?
No, they’re just utilising the premises of the right. Unlimited self-interest is great and can never lead to systemic collapse. Social Security will keep on chugging and global warming will just make for warmer summers.
I remember back in my Libertarian days thinking that there’s probably a huge disconnect in being a rich liberal: I mean, okay, I’ve made all this money, but it really isn’t fair, given all the poorer people that are working harder than I do.
But now, I’m older, mellower, and most importantly, willing to try it.
Hey, Universe, you listening? I’m willing to be a Limo Liberal, and if you bless me with sacks of cash, I promise I won’t become a douchebag bigot.
“That’s what they all say, Sonny.”
