I’m not wild about Newsom, but I’d assume he’d stay calm while DeSantis became unhinged… at least I can hope.
But why the hell would Newsom agree to Hannity as an unbiased moderator? Hoping for air time (and a nomination if Biden croaks?), no matter what the setup, I assume.
AIUI Hannity asked Newsom if he’d debate DeSantis and Newsom immediately accepted. It’s been DeSantis holding back until now, but with the campaign in trouble and Newsom taunting him with “put up or shut up!” DeSantis has to accept in order to get some attention.
It’ll be interesting not so much for each stating their policy differences for considerate viewers to contemplate, but for the whole “Thunderdome” aspect of these two going at each other. Say what you will about Newsom, but he has shown no hesitation in calling out the MAGA lies or mixing it up with the likes of DeSantis. Ronny wont be able to hide, but he may have to back down.
I’m picturing Ron going wild, gesturing and frothing, and Gavin just leans over the podium (and smirks at the camera of course), and says "“Oh, DO tell us more, Meatball…”
Ooh, maybe we can get this as a double bill, with the Musk vs Zuck cage match afterwards,
Let’s be very clear about why this is happening: DeSantis’ presidential campaign is bleeding staff, money and support in the polls. He needs something, anything, to give his campaign life. Debating Newsom looks like an act of desperation because it is one.

Ron DeSantis losing to Newsom in a nationally televised debate would be campaign-ending stuff. Of course, when a candidate is doing as badly in the polls as DeSantis is right now, they have to take risks. But taking a risk of this magnitude for so little potential reward is a massive strategic blunder — not unlike the ones that put DeSantis in this position to begin with.
Ron DeSantis has moved his campaign manager to senior advisor and put his chief of staff in the spot. This seems like a big change for a hopeful POTUS, but he’s been shaking things up all week.
Shuffling but keeping your top advisers doesn’t seem like a huge shakeup. More like rearranging the deck chairs while the S.S. DeSantis continues listing heavily to starboard.
