DeSantis suspends another elected official, who just happened to be female, black and a Democrat.
This is the road to fascism.

Perhaps the judicial branch needs to suspend DeSantis… Just sayin’
And DeSantis’s pretext is as bad as what we all know he’s actually doing. If he’s not removing a state’s attorney because she’s a Democrat and a black woman, he’s removing her because he doesn’t like how she’s using her prosecutorial discretion and then has the nerve to say he’s protecting prosecutorial discretion.
State’s attorneys are elected so that the voters of that county or district can decide whether they favor how the incumbent uses her prosecutorial discretion. The remedy for an SA who is “too soft” is enough voters agreeing and voting her out, not one man parachuting in from the state capital and decreeing the result. I presume the constitution gives the governor that power to remove corrupt SAs, and a governor who uses that power merely because a prosecutor is “too soft” usurps the voters who should be deciding that. But then “local control for Republican areas, strict state control of Democratic areas” is the order of the day for red state legislatures and governors.
Four candidates (DeSantis included) have signed the GOP loyalty pledge.
Trump, of course, has not.
I look forward to DeSantis being the candidate. After Trump fizzled due to numerous court cases. The nomination then ending up at the party convention. Where he will have to pledge to pardon Trump. I like new stuff in The Onion, and some of their DeSantis stories are like the old Onion of the 90s. Where most of their stories fall flat.
Just see www.theonion.com and click Politics.
Why should he? He’s loyal to the version of himself that exists in the moment (and only to that one). So it would be absurd. OTOH the buncha cowards that make up “leadership” in the GOP…
…are doing the same thing that got him nominated and elected, all over again.
It is silly to believe this at this point. Trump’s polling has only gone up as his troubles pile up, he is not going to “fizzle”. If anything this is helping him get elected.
Helping with the nomination.
Looking deeper at the polls (which are usually garbage this early) he is losing support among independents. That is good news, but again, too early to mean much.
The only polls that matter are those from the handful of swing states, and if they are showing waning support from Independents, that is indeed good news.
The latest embarrassment for his floundering campaign:

Quite sincerely, here’s hoping for the lesser of evils.
^ Agreed. It’s like P.J. O’Rourke said of Hillary in 2016: Christie is absolutely corrupt, but he’s corrupt within normal parameters — at least, as far as I know.
That said, the only way I’d vote for him is if it were a condition of having the proverbial pistol removed from one of my daughters’ heads (my own, I’d have to give it some thought).
Christie is Old School corrupt. But he is sane. Not many of the GOP ticket can claim that.
Id vote for Christie over RFKjr, or whichever Kennedy nutcase scion is running.
Yes, but it also allows for removal for “neglect of duty” and/or “incompetence”, which are the ostensible reasons used here.
Some of the accusations in the executive order are pretty wild. Like accusing Ms. Warell of skirting minimum mandatory sentence enhancements by not alleging all the facts known to her, or establishing a policy that the state will never charge more than X counts of child pornography, or seeking to withhold adjudication for repeat felony offenders in direct violation of state law.
Florida is kind of weird in that our statutes mandate a punishment approach to criminal sentencing, not rehabilitation.

A plan for DeSantis in the debates. Attack Vivik and act human, Ronnie! That’s the plan, essentially. And kinda defend Trump while attacking him?
They want him to act human? That is one tall order. He should be looking at Christie, whose numbers are rising I think largely because he’s got the guts to attach DJT. All the schmucks who are terrified of the MAGA base are turning off 2/3 of the party.
No chance of that unfortunately. Trump will be the nominee unless he is destroyed by the court cases against him. If that happens, all of the votes that would have gone to Trump bypass Christie and go to the next most deplorable (i.e. DeSantis).
I agree 100%. It’s more the aspirational thing. As I’ve stated in multiple other threads, the MAGA wing of the Republican party has done so much damage, and drifted so far to the right/Christian Domination that even a ‘traditional’ Republican is deadly to American Democracy for the foreseeable future.
But I could see a remote chance where few remaining ‘traditional’ members rally behind Christie and create more infighting, which persuades more pissed of MAGA types to not vote at all. Anything for confusion to the enemy (and I use that phrase advisedly as they very clearly state what they think of me).
That is why I was kinda rooting for DeSantis. If he could make it big enough to actually pull off a close win against Trump, then the battles over the claims of rigged primaries, would leave a smoking crater where Fisev forum used to be (sorry Milwaukee for any collateral damage it was a necessary sacrifice for the greater good) and the Party will spend the next couple of election cycles trying to put itself together.
But fortunately or unfortunately as other more prescient Dopers pointed out, despite winning in Florida, DeSantis has the charisma of a three day old cheese sandwich so its not going to happen.
