Agreed. Having any Rs at all doing anything other than staring lovingly at trump’s latest outrage du jour would be helpful.
The Rs essentially shutting down their own primary / caucus / convention process an anointing trump right after NH votes would be a real tragedy. He’ll have nothing to do for the 10 months to Nov except take shots at Biden.
Biden meanwhile, in addition to campaigning, still has a day job that requires a certain amount of attention. Or at least it does if it’s to be done well, not just phoned in as trump did.

Even if Trump does die or get disqualified, there’s no reason why Haley would get the nomination. The Trump delegates would now be free agents to vote for whomever they wish at the convention, and it ain’t gonna be Haley.

The national media only paid attention to him when he was running for governor, and when he was running for president. The first couple of years of his governorship were mostly moderate. It’s only the last 18 months or so when he turned into a demagogue.
No, it is just because DeSantis was trying to be a Mussolini without the benefit of any personality or appeal. His agenda in Florida seems to have pretty broad popularity, and while I’d like to follow that with “…because Florida” there are plenty of people who like what Fox News and the GOP in general has been saying about “The Woke”.

Trump’s AG will be lucky to stay out of prison. And the only plausible way to get lucky there is to be willing to refuse when Trump tells he or she to break the law. (The implausible way, to generate such luck, is to destroy the American legal system. The next AG may try, but success there is iffy.)

The mistake DeSantis and most of the other GOP candidates made was that they tried to play nice with Trump. But playing nice is never going to work with a bully like Trump. It’s certainly not going to do anything to earn the respect of his minions. Trump’s supporters see him as the biggest, baddest pitbull on the block, and that’s what they like about him. The only way you’re ever going to earn their support is by being a bigger badder pitbull.
DeSantis tried preening as a big, mean MFer, but he was never willing to go for the jugular, or really even say anything very mean about the Orange One, and Trump’s minions rightly saw him as the poseur that he was.
