Roseanne Part Two? No Thank You

The Bar Roseanne Show?

Where are conservative viewers going to go now for their yuks? The Ranch, on Netflix, is very good, but one of the main characters was metoo’d off the show (I read he was written off the show, but they will be back). And that other show with a conservative bent, (Last Man Standing) with Tim Allen, was cancelled last year. Are there any others still being broadcast?

The fact is that Rosanne is straight up crazy. Not wacky neighbor sitcom crazy, but for real crazy.

I thought Fox had picked up the steaming pile that is Last Man Standing?

That’s highly offensive to pigs.

Roseanne Season Two? No Thank You, says ABC. For all the talk about doing the right thing this decision was driven by the fact that many of the cast would have quit anyway and advertisers would be like rats leaving a sinking ship. The moronic Barr was toast as soon as she made that tweet. The pathetic attempts by her to backpedal show that she quickly realized she’d gone about 100 miles too far but by then it was way too late.

I await the response of the President of the United States of America to these events. I’m sure he’ll have something profound to say.

My overall feeling? A deep sense of satisfaction.

I really don’t know who Valerie Jarret is so I googled her. I think she looks a bit like Rosanne. Go figure.

FOX news, that has the ear of Trump, already told him to drop her like a hot potato.

Will Trump be himself or more like a puppet? We’ll see…

Finally, Roseanne made me laugh. Cue Nelson Muntz, “Ha ha!”

This is clearly a dismissive joke. But it’s at least approximately an actual joke, with some potential for humor. In the alternate universe in which there is a conservative equivalent to The Daily Show, John Oliver, etc, but one which is actually funny, this is the kind of joke that might be told.

That said, there’s some complexity there. The fact that we know Roseanne has conservative “anti-PC” tendencies informs how we hear the joke. When she tells it, the message seems to be “there’s no point in having all of these shows with non-white characters, because all they do is repeatedly hit us over the head with this PC message that ‘they’re just like us’”. With two implications:
(1) These other shows only exist because of PC, and wouldn’t have made it on the air if not for the SJWs in Hollywood
(2) Particularly if it’s a show featuring Muslims, who are, of course, evil and un-American, then the message of “they’re just like us” is a lie. In fact, I’d bet that different bigots would accept “they’re just like us” as a true (if PC) message about different sets of groups, but not all.

That said, I can also imagine an edgy progressive telling the same joke (particularly a few years ago), where they’re not making fun of the idea of having a show about minorities, but rather, making fun of a dominant culture that is so insecure that the only message a show about minorities is allowed to have is the very safe and reassuring pablum of “they’re just like us”… that is, the joke teller would prefer more shows like The Big Sick (yeah, I know it’s a movie, but still, it clearly does not downplay the cultural divides between the cultures that are clashing) and fewer like The Cosby Show.

So I was going to take the show of my Hulu watchlist, but it’s already disappeared from Hulu.

What time was that scheduled for? Because my cable box program guide shows two episodes of the Middle at 8 and 8:30. So most likely, they wiped it from the schedule.

Replace her with Rosie O’Donnell. You can still call it Roseanne and make a bunch of meta-Becky jokes!

It is being reported that reruns of the original Rosanne have been pulled from CMT and other stations:

8 pm ET. (now) And I am getting a repeat from the Middle)

My cable guide updates at 4 am everyday, so it didn’t have time to update after ABC’s announcement. Its telling me that I should be watching the Roseanne repeat where David unexpectedly shows up.

Way to go Roseanne; you managed to screw everyone you worked with over the years out of their royalties from seasons 1-9 too.

You can say she’s been… Barr’d.

I am happy ABC responded as they did, but I lament the passing of this show. No, it wasn’t All in the Family, but it was sorta doing some of the same things. It was a show that conservatives loved that was written by liberals and slowing pushing a more tolerant, liberal message. Hell, the fact that it bothered liberals was a feature, in my eyes, since that just gave it more conservative cred.

Don’t get me wrong: I didn’t like the show myself, but I liked that conservatives were defending a show that had a “Muslims are just like us” message. Or that gender nonconformity and homosexuality are okay. Or that it’s okay to be pro-choice, as Roseanne(!) was.

This is what really pisses me off. Other than John Goodman, I don’t think anyone in the remake had much of an acting career going. She fucked over all those people just because she is a big mouthed moron.

And I’m 100% sure she will be playing the victim soon about it.

Roseanne’s agent has dumped her, and Viacom, which owns the syndication rights, has pulled the original show from syndication.
