For the moment I will note that the breaking news article (the thread isn’t noted as such) specifies that all the reporting is coming from Giuliani’s spokesperson, so considering Rudy’s past actions, I will wait for a formal police report or other semi-independent reporting on the event before I comment further.
Giuliani’s car was hit from behind on Saturday night, spokesperson Michael Ragusa told The Independent. The 81-year-old was taken to a nearby trauma center, where physicians discovered he had a “fractured thoracic vertebrae” and multiple cuts and bruises, Ragusa said.
Shortly before the incident, Giuliani’s spokesperson says the ex-mayor had been helping a woman who was injured in a domestic violence incident.
Already my ‘spidey-sense’ is tingling.

He’s a Republican, and so is undeserving of sympathy for any reason. It’s not like he’s feel sympathy for me, after all.
Nor do I buy that a Republicans would do anything about a woman who is domestic violence victim, except possibly pitch in with the beating or rape her.
The story makes no sense, they’re trying to get ahead of the story that he had banging a prostitute or something.
I hope he has a speedy recovery and then gets in another car crash on the way home from the hospital and dies.
I hope he gets the best care Four Seasons Hospital can provide.

My take on that press release is that the ‘rendering aid’ part had nothing whatsoever to do with the ‘struck from behind at high speed’ part.
So far, the only news outlets I’ve seen carrying the story are simply quoting Giuliani’s press release. Many others, like CNN, currently aren’t carrying the story at all. It will be interesting to see what the full story is, which I bet will differ significantly from the statement.
Do mayors get to retain their title after they leave office? I don’t recall any other former mayors doing this.
