He could accept the award on national TV, using the opportunity to renounce hatred and closed-mindedness in the media, and announcing his foundation for undocumented migrants. And then he’d flash a peace sign and yell “Anyone But Donald! Thank you, America!”
You tell us what you believe our reaction should have been, then.
The man made a living dividing the country politically, radicalizing half of it, and insulting the other half in the most offensive, demeaning way possible. If we behaved the way he does this thread would have been closed almost immediately for its offensiveness. I disagree with you. This thread has shown very good taste and decorum, and in truth it’s much better than he deserves.
I am outraged that someone who’s spewed so much hatred and lies is being awarded the Medal of Freedom. It’s an insult to every former Medal of Freedom winner. Shame on him. Shame on the president who’s so misguided and so corrupt that he’s corrupted what has been, until now, a great honor.
I know. It’s really a shame.
I read the news about Rush’s cancer on the Drudge Report website. My second thought was, “I wonder what the compassionate, tolerant, highly evolved liberals at SDMB will have to say about this?” Thanks for not disappointing me.
Not a fan of Rush, but I hope he either recovers or has a painless passing.
You should really give Moving Pictures a good listen. Might change your mind.
Relax, Long-neckers. This is just a place-holder. No need to knicker-twist.
I just saw a photo of him at the SotU. My goodness he looks terrible.
I saw bits and pieces of the SotU on TV, including him getting that medal. I’m not one to get literally sick to my stomach much, but that scene did it.
That said, yes, he really didn’t look like he’s feeling well at all.
Still, even so, no sympathy from me.
Because that would be mean.
Serial killer to jaywalker: “Hey, you just broke the law too! You’re no better than I am!”
Cancer is a bastard. I wish it on no one. But Limbaugh has earned no sympathy from me.
What can you expect?
I see a lot of talk about not wishing cancer on people in this thread. Fair enough, but happily in Limbaugh’s case we don’t have to.
As opposed to WHAT? The way he was looked for his entire life?
The man was an overweight smoking druggie who probably never gave one thought to his health until he got sick. No sympathy whatsoever.
Is this thread just red meat bait for a bear trap? It sure seems that way. I mean, I know I’m not allowed to say what I’d like to about “highly political figures” in MPSIMS or I’d be in trouble, unless I’m interpreting the guidelines the wrong way. ( And that’s possible.)
But baited bear traps are acceptable to leave around the board in sections where open unfiltered political discourse is unwelcome…? That seems…disingenuous. It’s like saying that the rules of battle are that no side can shoot at any other side… but that landmines are perfectly fine.
Edited to Add: " I’m Not Sorry For Your Loss. "
He offered me bilious rancor and ceaseless derision. What should he expect in return?
Still have to respect the acting chops displaying his complete and utter surprise upon receiving the award. Rod Steiger couldn’t have done it better!
Man, when I was doing a little digging to find out if the second hand smoke comment was true, I realized I’d forgotten what a colossal asshole he is. I’d been thinking about him as a right wing loud mouth, but I’d forgotten about:
Calling Sandra Fluke a prostitute
Mocking Michael Fox’s Parkinson’s
Calling Chelsea Clinton–not a public figure by choice–the White House dog
and other things.
He’s a malignant bully and I’m not sure why I’m supposed to give him any sympathy.
A most appropriate last line in the hugely shortened list of his heinous excretions…
A medal for smoking cigars. Well, I guess that shit kind of worked out for him. The devil is in the details, Rush.
