The Russian people should start doxxing the police force and political/military leaders.
Ukraine offers amnesty & payment for Russians that surrender with equipment.
Smart idea
I like both versions, but I think @GreenWyvern’s is better.
This came directly from Zelenskiy. He’s shifted towards several important concessions.
I hope it’s the right call. It sounds (to me) Ukraine will be under Russia’s thumb for a very long time. I know thousands of people are suffering & dying. Waiting for sanctions against Russia may not be possible.
I’m not sure Ukraine has any better options. NATO won’t give them MiGs or other offensive weapons to drive the Russians out of Ukrainian territory.
Y’know, that the Russian Army is said to be suffering a high level of frostbite, is one astounding indictment of their readiness stance. Almost too on-point to be true, but seeing what else has gone wrong…
Does Ukraine and Russia have winter June thru Aug like Australia?
I’m confused why its getting colder in Ukraine.
The US is getting warmer. 1st day of astronomical Spring is March 20 (last weekend).
No. Ukraine and Russia are in the Northern Hemisphere. Australia is in the Southern. Same seasons as us in the US, but there was or is a polar vortex that blasted through the area that dropped temps down. You can find the average monthly temperatures here: Ukraine climate: average weather, temperature, rain - Climates to Travel
It’s been cooler in Ukraine for the last three or four days, but it hasn’t been freezing temperature for about a week. The frostbite reports surfaced a few days ago, and they were themselves probably reporting on things that had happened days or weeks earlier.
Also it may not technically count as frostbite but fingers remaining perpetually chilled to a degree or two above freezing don’t do well.
Um… yes and no. Keep in mind that Zelenskyy is a master of tailoring his message to the audience he is addressing, and that no doubt Russian authorities were monitoring that video call. I think he’s trying to get a toe in the door, but isn’t willing to concede as much as people might think he is, or hope he is.
Yes, that did leave me rather gobsmacked.
What, the US is getting warmer? Says who - spring here in Indiana is a roller coaster. Before that Spring Equinox we hit 70 degrees one day. This week it’s been 20 degrees with snow showers. I’ve had both Russian and Ukrainian immigrants tell me that the climate of the US upper Midwest bears more than a passing resemblance to “home”.
And you don’t have to have Arctic levels of cold to get frostbite. It just has to be below freezing for an extended period while men are living in tanks and trucks instead of proper shelter.
Also:
I’m all to familiar with the psychological effects of being cold. Backpacking trips change dramatically with the onset of cold weather. Its hard getting motivated to do anything except sit by the campfire and drink hot coffee. There’s no choice but to pack up and continue hiking towards the car.
Fighting a war in extreme cold has to be pure hell.
I’m in the same Koppen climate zone as Ukraine, and tonight the wind chill is supposed to bring us down to three degrees F. And we aren’t as cold as Ukraine.
Here in Saskatchewan, we had a couple of days of -30 C in early March. Territory that is far inland from oceans can have major temperature swings. Cold Arctic air suddenly coming down is just part of life, from late October to early March. I’m still carrying gloves, toque and scarf in my coat pockets. You never know.
As I’ve mentioned before, Ukraine and Saskatchewan share very similar geography and climate. I’d hate to be sheltering in a truck somewhere in the country here.
For your reference, Kyiv is at ~50°21’N, which is approximately Regina Saskatchewan or the base of the northern peninsula of the island of Newfoundland. Southern Ukraine extends as far south as 44° (Crimea), which is one reason Russia would like to own it, for the always-ice-free harbors.
Thank you. The news about the war and cold will be more understandable.
Russia has changed plans to occupy Kiev. Ground Troops aren’t that essential anymore. Russia can launch missiles from Belarus or Russia. The Iskander can support a wide range of warheads. 9K720 Iskander - Wikipedia

Missiles do not take and hold territory.
Putin: They dared say no to me!!!
If he has his way, all of Ukraine will be a mine-filled wasteland buffer between him and NATO.
Neither does the Russia army.
