Sorry, it’s historically been a strange arrangement between France and NATO. I’ve always thought of them as independently in alignment.
I suppose that a certain number of soldiers would be captured, just from normal statistical odds. But I can’t help wondering if it says something about the Russian military’s level of competence, that even their special forces are getting captured.
From history, holding prisoners of war seems to have been a fairly large burden on the capturer. I’d wonder if one thing that Europe could do, to help, without triggering Russia to escalate would be to offer to take Russian soldiers who were captured and take care of them.

I kept wondering why we aren’t seeing video of captured soldiers of either side (other than one clip of two Russian POWs that I think has been verified). By now there have to be a fair number of prisoners.
Then I remembered that, per Geneva Convention, you aren’t allowed to film POWs and make it public. I’m just going on memory here but it’s a basic enough human right that I didn’t even look it up.
It’s a good thing that neither the Russians nor the Ukrainians are, AFAICT, using images of POWs for propaganda/humiliation/threats. But maybe I’m wrong and I’m just not seeing the pix.
