Russia invades Ukraine {2022-02-24} (Part 1)

The loss of the bridge over the Dniester Estuary is a significant loss.

Here’s another map. The blue line is the border with Moldova. You have to click for the map

Russia is getting smarter

I think you mean that it would be, were that happen.

The bridge is closed for now. I expect another smart missile will finish the job.

The Russian’s know the coordinates.

Access isn’t an issue unless fighting breaks out in Moldova. But a few soldiers at a checkpoint can harass civilian traffic.

How cool would it be if the Kommuna was sunk, too! Probably not worth the effort, though.

Wouldn’t that depend on storm conditions?

I think it would be a shame if Kommuna were sunk, just because it’s almost 110 years old. Even though Russia is currently the bad guy, the ship itself is a piece of naval history.

Then it should be in a naval museum. If it’s being used by the Russians for military purposes, then it’s a legit target, history be damned.

100% accurate.

But I don’t think Johnny was saying it wasn’t a legit target.

Going back to the salvage ship Kommuna it’s hard to imagine a 100 year old ship surviving Russian maintenance. That’s actually impressive.

Just fill it in with Russian tanks and install a smaller bridge.

I was not. It would just be a shame if, being a legitimate target, it was lost to history.

But once it became a diving park, would it truly be lost to history?

Secretary-General of the United Nations António Guterres met with Putin in Moscow today:

https://nitter.eu/pic/media%2FFRSs6H3X0AE27Fb.jpg%3Fname%3Dsmall

It looks like a gigantic Monopoly board, even having a pile of Community Chest cards next to Putin who, of course, is about to move his train engine.

Putin looks like he’s trying to raise his hand and can’t.

That comically huge table is quite a hoot! Whatever Putin’s motivations are, he sure isn’t subtle about it.

I reject the suggestions that he fears COVID or a potential assassination. Those are just silly. Considering that he recently met with Sergei Shoigu over an extremely small table, I think this is just a very stupid and blatant mind game: if I like you, small intimate table; if I think you’re an ass representing the Western powers, and have no interest in anything you have to say: comically long table.

The man who goes around shirtless on horseback and pretends to play professional-level hockey is congenitally incapable of nuance.

ETA: Of course another possibility is that he may indeed be in a frail condition, and that visitors he perceives as enemies should not be close enough to perceive it.

I’ve seen other photos that strongly imply Putin isn’t well, but in this one he doesn’t look any worse then the SecGen.

Well, I looked it up, António Guterres is older, but only by about 3 years.

Also, I thought that was just Putin’s right hand, but looking closer at the blurry photo, maybe he has his hands clasped like Guterres does.

If it didn’t lead to a hijack, this picture would make for decent caption contest material.
