Ukraine are a step closer to reaching the 2022 soccer football World Cup after beating Scotland 3-1 in a play-off match. They will now need to defeat Wales in a play-off final on Sunday to progress to the main tournament, which is due to be held in Qatar at the end of the year.
I hope they make it.
Russia were kicked out of the competition qualifiers in February for their evil deeds in Ukraine. As in most countries, soccer football is the most popular sport in Russia. I’ve been interested to know how the suspension of the Russian national team and Russian club teams from international and club soccer football respectively has been reported in the country, such as whether they are claiming that governing body FIFA are a NATO tool, but haven’t found anything.
In alternate universe, Putin could have been attending the Champions League final between Liverpool and Real Madrid this week. It had been scheduled to be played in Saint Peterburg, but was moved to Paris following the invasion.
The politician, Alexie Zhuravlev, was joined on the talk show by fellow MP and Russian-state mouthpiece Yevgeny Popov, the host of the Rossiya 1 channel show.
The lawmaker claimed that two of Russia’s Sarmat ‘Satan 2’ missiles would destroy the entirety of America’s east coast - before adding it would take just “two missiles for the west coast” as well.
So what do the Russians think we would do with 6000 nukes if the US was attacked with nukes? What a toothless threat to make.
Yeah, our silos aren’t on the east and west coast. Not really a neutralizing first strike. So far, I haven’t seen any reason to take their nuclear threats seriously. But then again, I thought and still think Putin would be a moron to invade Ukraine, and here we are.
The worst threat they could make would be NEMP. It has been put forth that one warhead a hundred miles up over the right spot would fry basically all the electronics in the 48, with no major fatalities. If correct, that would be quite the hole for the US to climb out of. By the time we did, the rest of the world would have a huge lead in Minecraft or whatever.
The U.S. is trying to help Ukraine fend off the Russians without triggering a wider war in Europe. The Pentagon said it received assurances that Ukraine will not fire the new rockets into Russian territory.
Is this basically just the Russian equivalent of MTG saying something incredibly stupid on a Fox news show? Is this politician really just a moron with a mouth?
Zelenskyy adviser Arestovych says that Ukrainian forces set a trap for the enemy in Severodonetsk by placing washing machines in the town square pretending to withdraw from the city, thus luring the fascist invaders into an ambush which inflicted many casualties.
Russian troops have made a name for themselves as looters and thieves (among other things). They’ve stolen a number of consumer goods, including washing machines, and sent them back to their families in Russia. It’s become a source of black humor in some circles; if I remember correctly, the Russian embassy in London (?) was blocked last week by a mound of cast-off appliances and such. Signs taped to them said stuff like “If you need a washing machine, take this one and get out of Ukraine.”
An illustrated placard [held by Polish anti-war activists] with the words “Come back with a washing machine,” humorously alluding to alleged looting by Russian troops in Ukraine [Link]
Russian soldiers stealing washing machines is a meme, like glorious Ukrainian tractor farmers capturing Russian tanks.
Watching Mysteries Of The Abandoned, I get the impression that the Russians/Soviets have always been notorious for their looting. At least the Nazis kept records.
It’s a standard propaganda practice to portray enemy armies as monsters that were formed by emptying prisons and mental institutions. I’d normally dismiss such claims out of hand, however, based on the volume of looting being documented in this conflict, the charge seems to have at least a kernel of truth to it.
