Where did you see those reports? I was looking earlier to see if any POW numbers had been released yet and hadn’t found anything - you know there had to be pockets of Russian troop concentrations that got bypassed and are likely surrendering as they discover they’re surrounded.
to be honest, most is off twitter accounts (normally of “decent to good” reputation) or Reddit (more questionable sources) … and I do not keep tabs
here is a good overview with most of the blue dots backed-up with photos of Ukr. soldiers in town…

that one is fairly new out:
.
Russia is complaining about the west supplying military equipment to Ukraine, but in the past three days they’ve given more armoured vehicles to Ukraine than Germany has in the past six months.
To be fair, I’m sure they’re not happy about that either.
Is that Russian news-speak for “making sure they can get their lootings back to Russia?”
They’re just never satisfied.
Their possessions consist of expired rations and their danglies which would be a good reason to leave sooner than later.
Institute for Study of War is back up after being hard to connect to, yesterday.
They have a detailed report, which I won’t reproduce; here’s their “takeaways” summary:
Closing line of the report:
The Ukrainian counteroffensive is effectively paralyzing the Russian occupation leadership that is likely afraid for its fate.
And well they should be.
I think that area was the Russian artillery positions for shelling Kharkiv?
Now standard Ukraine artillery can hit anything crossing the border. HIMARS can do it with precision.
Do you think that the Ukrainian forces will cross the Russian border, just a little bit to show that they can?
too risky, would be my thought.
Better to do “I’m not touching you, I’m not touching you, see how I’m not touching you!”
Out of date. Ukrainian forces are reportedly in Vovchansk, five miles from the border.
I’d say that this is the new point where Putin will need to either decide to be honest or double-down on the dumb. Either he starts making people like this disappear in a headline-making war or let’s popular sentiment build for a withdrawal.
Hopefully, he chooses the latter…
I’m getting the feeling that the focus of the story of this war will soon move from the battle lines to Moscow.
But to be the first foreign force to take Russian land in 80 years is soooooo tempting. Maybe just a little bit and then give it back. It’s probably better tactics to have the moral high ground though.
I’m sure Ukraine would love hitting the airfields inside Russia. But they made an agreement with the US and Britain that HIMARS wouldn’t strike inside Russia.
Maybe a commando raid? It would be tempting to eliminate Russian bombers.
Somehow, things in Russia have a habit of combusting anyway.
Belgorod, across the Russian border, today:
Belgorod’s rail yards and airfield are less than 40km from the borders, so just within range of some conventional artillery - the Caesars from France, and any M777 with the Excalibur shells.
