So I have to ask again, which map you are looking at? I haven’t seen any map like that.
The Wikipedia map is crowd-sourced, with every little detail argued over, so it’s as accurate as you are likely to get.

Oh, it’s two days old… and maybe not accurate then…
It’s the interactive map of the invasion. Here is the link. It basically shows Russian advancement, and also puts icons on for various incidents, from battles, planes shot down, even protests or warnings.
There’s a lot of focus on the BBC’s Clive Myrie and his reporting from Ukraine but there are actually a lot of Western journalists (including other British ones from Sky and ITV) in the line of fire there. Braver people than I, by a long way.
I assumed it was in part linked to Russia holding the presidency of the UN Security Council for February, and thus being able to delay or veto a UN response. I believe UAE has it this month, and they’re also Russia-friendly.
Yes, I’ve been looking at that a lot.
You’re right, it does show a narrow advance south from Chernihiv that wasn’t there yesterday. It doesn’t give any information about that, and I haven’t seen anything about it elsewhere.
Interestingly, a very recent update shows:
Russian fuel convoy ambushed and destroyed by Ukrainian troops near Pryluky east of Kyiv.
That’s significant, as it’s cutting the supply line of the column advancing from the east:
Still catching up on the thread from the weekend but the linked letter from Colonel-General Ivashov Leonid Grigoryevich is quite interesting for this observation.
Can I ask a dumb question? How did you insert that map snippet??
ETA: And that icon just popped up recently. And, yeah, that IS significant! Especially if they can either do it again, or follow up on it.
One of the things that really comes home watching the interactive map over time is that Russians really don’t seem to do night OPS. When it is getting dark they basically just stop. Intellectually, I knew this from earlier reports, but it really comes home when you watch things periodically. It really shows a weakness in their tactical doctrine that they seemingly need to do this.
a) I took a screenshot
b) clipped the part I wanted and saved it to a file
c) uploaded it to Postimages
d) inserted the link to the uploaded image.
Ok, thanks! I didn’t know we could do that. When I was using the snipping tool and just tried to do it directly it didn’t work so, I figured it wasn’t something we were allowed. ETA: I’ve been wanting to cut and paste from the map to illustrate the points I’ve been trying to make since this thing started, and seeing you do it I was really wanting to know how. Again, thanks!!
I don’t believe that for an instant. Turkey is a member of NATO… and that’s from a Russian website.
https://www.reuters.com/world/turkey-us-will-coordinate-response-ukraine-war-ankara-says-2022-03-05/
The quoted article is saying that in a hypothetical broader war Turkey would fight against Russia.
Not saying I approve but there are some very strong feeling amongst the eastern-European countries…
Though it’s only about 700k vaccines which is a drop in the ocean campared to the numbers Bangladesh needs.
I read it the other way.
From the Guardian live feed.
Update from the Pentagon
The US assesses that Russia has now committed almost 100% of the forces it had amassed for the Ukraine invasion. That means an estimated 127 battalion tactical groups.
The Russian force has launched over 625 missiles, mostly short and medium range surface to air missiles and cruise missiles, US officials say.
The US also deems Ukraine airspace to be still contested, as the country’s forces still have most of their fixed-wing aircraft available and flying, and its air defences are still working.
There are still no signs of Belarus troops inside Ukraine and no sign they are on the point of entering. Meanwhile, Russia is trying to recruit foreign fighters, especially Syrians, to take part in its war in Ukraine. There is no evidence of Syrian fighters actually arriving in Ukraine however. Overall, the offensive on Kyiv is still stalled, the US says.
“We’re not seeing a lot of progress,” a senior defence official said, attributing it to a combination of stiff Ukrainian resistance and “internal challenges” within the Russian forces.
But the official cautioned that Russian troops are making more headway in the south, and Vladimir Putin still has a lot more combat power available to him.
Arms supplies from the US and its allies are still making their way into Ukraine by land routes, which have not as yet been threatened or closed.
“Over time it could become more difficult but we haven’t seen that yet,’’ a senior defence official said.
Note:
[Emphasis mine] If most of those missiles were SAMs, airspace must really be contested!
Turkey was doing their damndest the last four years to get booted from NATO.
Granted, I don’t think anyone ever raised the prospect but Erdogan has changed the nation from a natural NATO ally to something very different in the last few years. I don’t think that it’s really a high priority for him to stay in the alliance - especially not now that he knows Russia’s maxed out.
True, but for a nation as tiny as Lithuania, a donation of 700,000 vaccines is huge - it would be as if the United States donated 84 million.
Larger chunk of the surrounding material (translated by Google)
The use of military force against Ukraine, firstly, will call into question the existence of Russia itself as a state; secondly, it will forever make Russians and Ukrainians mortal enemies. Thirdly, there will be thousands (tens of thousands) of dead young, healthy guys on one side and on the other, which will certainly affect the future demographic situation in our dying countries. On the battlefield, if this happens, Russian troops will face not only Ukrainian military personnel, among whom there will be many Russian guys, but also military personnel and equipment from many NATO countries, and the member states of the alliance will be obliged to declare war on Russia.
President of the Republic of Turkey R. Erdogan clearly stated which side Turkey would fight on. And it can be assumed that two Turkish field armies and a fleet will be ordered to “liberate” the Crimea and Sevastopol and possibly invade the Caucasus.
In addition, Russia will definitely be included in the category of countries that threaten peace and international security, will be subject to the heaviest sanctions, will turn into a pariah of the world community, and will probably be deprived of the status of an independent state.
The president and the government, the Ministry of Defense cannot fail to understand such consequences, they are not so stupid.
He’s not saying that Turkey will betray NATO. He’s arguing against military action in Ukraine, and Turkey being among the forces arrayed against them is one of his points.
You’re right. The larger extract makes it clear.
