Speaking of mushy-brainedness, if you’d think about it for five seconds, you’d realize that roughly half the undergraduate student body at Rutgers would’ve been below voting age in 2008. I think you’re getting senile, ralph.
You know, I probably had to check your Pub-Card at one of the Pubs. Just one of a thousand girls who looked Absolutely Amazing in person but looked like they just got told they were pregnant or failing out in the picture on their Pub-Card.
Before you accuse me, take a look at yourself…
Before you accuse me, take a look at yourself…
That DOT pic in your wallet honey,
It sure do look like someone else…
I can’t tell if you think I’m female, but I’m not. I never had a pub card, nor know what one is. Just a regular, run of the mill, fake driver’s license.
Usually quality schools get CEOs or heads of state or people who have made great accomplishments to speak at commencement. They get comedians or Katy Perry for homecoming or Seniors week or whatever.
Then again, it’s Rutgers, not Princeton.
Nonsense. My friends and I used to have a house in Belmar in the mid to late 90s and the place was full of guidos and juice heads. I just think everyone in NJ says “we ain’t like that!” because to them it’s all just normal.
Absolutely. My shore days were mostly in the mid/late 80s and I knew plenty of people who would have fit right in on Jersey Shore. Plenty.
This is an ad hominem attack!
I expect this to be dealt with, with the most severe punishments available!
I don’t hate her, that would require more effort that I’m willing to spend on her. And I really dislike that “haters gonna hate” thing, again it implies that I care enough about her to hate her.
Not sure why you think I can’t actually be confused about the appeal of her “act”. I’ve passed this show when changing channels and tried to watch to see the appeal and never could stand more than a minute or two. Most of it is unintelligible and they have to caption it. I’ve also seen plenty of clips of the show and seen the “stars” on various talk shows. I never found any of them even vaguely interesting. So yes, I am totally confused why anyone would want to watch them for free on TV, let alone spend $32,000 dollars to hear one of them give a talk.
Also, what they said.
Then the students should take it up with whatever organization is in charge of selecting entertainment. If they don’t, I would assume they had a perfectly wonderful time with her. Why do you begrudge students their relaxation?
Translation: People aren’t giving my opinion the consideration I think it deserves so I will pout.
Yeah, and according to the article, Snooki is NOT SPEAKING AT COMMENCEMENT. Toni Morrison is.
This is JUST an entertainment thing, paid for by the student entertainment budget, for the entertainment of students.
But once again…what exactly will she DO as entertainment?
Stupid Rutgers kids, could have got a couple bands and a club DJ, had a real party.
nonsense back at you. I never heard “guidos” used as a common description at the Jersey Shore until that show came out. You sure as hell didn’t see it on the beachwear. “Gym, Tan, Laundry”? Ditto.
“GTL” is definitely something that the boys from Jersey Shore made up, and I don’t think they’ve ever claimed that it was a common phrase outside of their group.
As for guidos…I definitely had heard the term before the show. I remember looking online at sites that made fun of those sorts of guys, marveling at their tans and “bling.” Maybe the term took off more with MySpace, where dudes were posting a lot of pics of themselves. I think I first read about it on Hot Chicks with Douchebags (which did not originate the term “guido”, I’m just saying I probably learned it there.)
The students should take it up with the university for forcing them to pay a fee that has ZERO to do with their education.
Translation: I can’t actually argue with the statement because it’s true, but I can sure use words like “pout” and “haters” to throw ad hominem attacks.
“Haters gonna hate” is used so that you don’t have to address why the person is criticizing you or your views. It’s the stuff used on deviantart where you can get banned for criticizing someone’s art. It’s entire purpose is to coddle people who can’t take criticism. It belittles the person making the argument, so they can justify not listening to them. It’s ignorant B.S., and, on this message board, we don’t have to put up with it.
If you want to fight ignorance, you have to listen to dissenting views.
BTW: I’m pretty sure that, knowing a lot of college aged students, Snooki is being invited “ironically.” Everyone in that age bracket knows it’s stupid, but stupid is cool right now (ala the hipster movement). Heck, even the fact that so many people would get upset by it is probably a bonus. It’s all just a big joke to them.
Translation… actually, I have no idea what this means.
In an alternate historical timeline, discussion boards teem with pro-Hitler fanboys saying “dont listen 2 the haterz, Adolf!” and “ok u think u can do better, lets hear UR final solution!!@”
Hitler would have been just fine with paying Snooki $32K for a speech, I’m certain of it.
Oh. Then who cares? That’s what the entertainment budget is for.
I’ve heard the term “guido” used since the 80s. Back then a guido typically drove an IROC-Z, wore gold chains, Z Cavaricci pants and one of those “8 Ball” leather jackets.
The term “grenade” is an old one as well. At least since the early 90s. I don’t know if the show ever explains the technical meaning. Basically, when you and your friends are trying to get with a group of girls, there is usually one who is some combination of ugly, fat or unpleasent. She is a “grenade” because some poor unfortunate hero is going to have to “jump on her” and sacrifice himself for the rest of the squad. The usage has been expanded, however, to include any ugly, fat or unpleasent girls or to disparage the overal quality of the venue (e.g. “This place is full of grenades.”)
She surely has nothing to do with booking her appearances. She has a manager and an agent, among other people who handle her business affairs. She doesn’t have to do anything but show up to her appearances and her manager probably makes sure she does that, too. She’s probably getting half or less of the $32,000 after she pays all of the people who handle her affairs, and that’s before paying taxes on her cut. She is a product being pushed by people who know how to exploit her fame.
