Sally Field- That's what she's going to be remembered for???

Definitely the Flying Nun. Also on “ER” as Abby’s bipolar mother (she won an Emmy for that).

For the last thirty years, she has looked the same. Hasn’t changed hardly at all. I find that most surprising.

I remember the Flying Nun, but I mostly remember her from Forrest Gump. Though there’s also the general osmosis of always knowing her from a bunch of stuff.

Oh, Damn! Is she wearing them things now, too?

The Flying Nun has to be the answer. God, I’m only 31 and already feeling my age.

What about Gidget?

For me it’s a toss up between The Flying Nun and Smokey & the Bandit. I must say she still looks pretty good for someone of her age.

Now I’ll remember her as the person who isn’t dead yet. WHOOSH!

First recollection of her is in the Flying Nun. She’s actually done a lot of good stuff, including “Places in the Heart.”

Most of you are obviously culturally illiterate. She was fabulous in [del]The Bridge on the River Kwai[/del] Norma Rae.

FWIW an IMDB search for Sally Field shows: Sally Field (Actress, Forrest Gump (1994)).

Principal: [after Mrs. Gump had been entertaining him] You’re momma sure does care about your education, son.
Principal: [Forrest remains quiet] You don’t say much do you?
Young Forrest Gump: [imitates the noises he has just heard] eh, eh, eh, eh, eh…

She played Hanks’ mother in Forrest Gump but also his lover in some previous, more forgettable movie.

She’s got this one body and this one life . . .

Punchline.

“I used to have to take time out of my busy schedule to take a pill once a week, Now I only have to take Boniva once a month.

Oh, joy.

I wish she hadn’t done this commercial. I actually love her acting ability.

“I’m FINE! Shelby’s dead, but I’m fine!”

<sniff>

Quick hijack: who was supposedly making those noises? The Principal, or Mrs. Gump? I’ve wondered that since 1994.

The Principal!

You seem to be assuming that these people on radio who you are quoting are 1) frequent moviegoers, 2) old enough to remember more than the past couple of years, 3) not the sort of people who can barely remember what film they watched last weekend, let alone several years ago, and 4) always know or care what the most famous roles are for any given film star. I’ve seen such things before. A friend once pointed out to me a news story in which they referred to Peter “King Ralph” O’Toole. In other words, the only reference they gave was to his most recent (at that point) role in what was a pretty terrible film. I suspect that these people on radio barely even knew who Sally Field is and just mentioned the one film that they vaguely remembered watching with her in it.

I always this of this image when I think of her.

That commercial used to drive me nuts. Until I found out that osteoporosis pills are pretty complicated: You can’t eat or drink anything within hours, you can’t sit or lie down for at least half an hour – you can’t sit down for half an hour. Doesn’t really sound like that long, but if you need to drive to work, too bad. And if you’re an older lady who can’t stay on her feet for half an hour, too bad. I’d rather do that once a month than once a week, too.

It sounded stupid to those of us who don’t take the drugs, but for the target audience, I bet they were all nodding their heads and saying “Where can I get me some of that?

Nobody thought “Gidget”? Nobody?

In this case, I think you really are. Not saying that to be a jerk, just stating a fact. Mrs. Doubtfire was a hugely popular movie with families and young teens when it came out. It was released only a year after Aladdin and was the first real time anyone under the age of 15 saw Robin Williams in something “recent”.

I took one sample Boniva (once a month pill) that my dr. gave me - it said you couldn’t lie down for an hour, or eat, or drink anything but water. Nothing about not sitting down.

I’m taking another brand now, because my insurance wouldn’t cover Boniva. This one is once a week. Don’t lie down or drink or eat for 30 minutes. It’s a bit of a pain, but I do my little morning routine right after I take it - take my meds, feed the dogs, fix my coffee - wait for 15 minutes to drink it…
