Drat! I’m out of them!
This thread made me go looking for chips after work and I don’t even eat chips that often. But, when I do eat them Salt and Pepper chips are my favorite followed closely by Ketchup chips. yuuummmmmyyyyy.
The store was out of both
If I’m correct, you’re referring to Cape Cod’s Golden or Dark Russet potato chips; they are indeed kettle-cooked as Sharky says:
They’re my favorite, too, besides Cape Cod’s Salt and Vinegar and Herr’s Ketchup, as well as any brand of dill pickle-flavored chips.
I love Cape Cod’s salt and vinegar. Last summer I went seriously overboard eating them and had to stop for a bit. They caused havoc with my lips.
That’s the brand I was trying to recall! Thanks, Joe.
They don’t carry the dark russet in our store any more.
Now they are trying new stuff such as jalapeno and popcorn flavored.
Beautiful. Exactly the ones I was talking about. Thanks.
I’ve tried two different makes of Salt n’ Pepper chips, and I like them both. I didn’t look at the ingredients of the second brand, but the first one didn’t have pepper listed as an ingredient.
Any word on how the Lay’s Salt & Pepper ones taste?
I keep seeing them and have a perverted compulsion to buy a bag, but for some reason the fact that they’re salt & pepper kinda turns me off. Are they spicy peppery? I don’t like spicy chips.
I bought Lay’s salt and pepper chips and I thought they were vile. I like their other chips, but not those. And the packaging is such an appealing shade of grey, too!
Trunk and Uvula Donor, you remember those Humpty Dumpty ketchup chips? God, those were great! I haven’t been able to find any ketchup chips in years. Shamrock, what brand do you have where you are?
I love the salt and pepper chips, too, but I can’t seem to find those around here either. But gardentraveler said Terra, so maybe I’ll check Whole Foods – I know they have other Terra varieties. But not tonight – I’m lazy tonight.
Tim’s (previously mentioned in this thread) occasionally makes ketchup chips, but I’ve never tried them. I’ve also seen ketchup chips in various locations in Canada, so if you ever head up there you might want to poke around.
You might also want to ask on Chowhound.com–I know Jim Leff, the creator of the site, was doing a massive chip-tasting exercise a while ago.
Herr’s “Heinz Ketchup Potato Chips”.
Herr’s also makes the best Salt and Pepper ones (Utz makes them too but I don’t remember being too impressed with those). Oh and Herr’s also makes Steak and Worcestershire potato chips that are pretty durn awsome, too…
Gosh I’m hungry…
I just went on the website and apparently Herr’s will ship your chips - so if anyone is having a craving…
Behold!
The selection of the best potato chips in the world! The amazin Zapps chips!

Those things are friggin awesome, and I dont’ even like chips.
But I gotta try those salt and pepper chips too though.
Ketchup chips (bleah) are commonplace in Canada.
The Lay’s salt and pepper chips aren’t bad (matt_mcl aside) but the grey packaging sure is.
They also have great Salt & Pepper Popcorn but the store I bought 'em from hasn’t had any lately.
I’d reccomend Kettle Chips Salt ‘n’ Pepper.
I think these have long since fled the snack shelf. :dubious:
