Yeah I mean I know I haven’t been around since the beginning of time like some folks but I really think its unfair to make it seem like there is a place we all get together and exchange personal info about dopers. I’m sure lots of horrible inappropriate things have happened in lots of places but that doesn’t mean that is going on right now.

If the mods are shutting down dangerous behavior then yes it is just harmless ribbing no matter what happened in the past. Seems like even anonymous assholes are capable of learning from mistakes.

As for the Snark Pit, I haven’t been there since probably last year sometime. I knew CarnalK was a Snarkpit douchebag, so no surprise there, but it’s always nice to unmask another troll.
Yes. It was Excalibre who did it, and he was kind of an ass to do it. The moderators at the snarkpit had to go to lot of trouble to clean up that mess that Sampiro and Excalibre made, turning on IP logging, constant vigils for Sampiro’s address and eventually adding filters that blocked posts if they contained various aspects of his address. As saoirse mentioned, when a bunch of people wanted to track down a cheating Doper and tell her husband about her infidelity, the Snark PTB also took steps to block that. The only time the snarkers were allowed to run wild was when Sponge Mom was being taken in by some sexual predator/con man on her personal message boards. The anons went to a fair bit of trouble tracking down the cuplrit.
But still, in the foggy memories of people like Zabali somehow it’s a completely uncaring free for all. It’s amazing how all that “ignorance fighting” goes out the window when things get the least bit personal.
E-Sabbath, I’m not trying to convince anyone that Sampiro is the evil one or get people like Ogre to admit that Sampiro is a terrible person. Just that he kind of over reacted and I’m not out to fucking get him. Apparently, Richard Parker got this big grudge thing from a single argument me and Sampiro had. I have no idea where Orual’s false memories come from, but I see she was dutifully thanked for expressing them.

The Snark Pit, although I do read to it and even contribute occasionally, sickens me sometimes. Or, more accurately, some of the contributors sicken me when they go on about “fag this” and “fag that” and “gay people and trannies are sick weirdos”, and the other posters’ willingness to go along with it makes me uncomfortable about my fellow Dopers. That said, I agree that it’s a waste of time and energy to care about what people say about you over there. I just find it funny when I get snarked. Of course, now there are going to be eight pages of “hostile is a faggort” over there. Oh well.
DeadJournal is too confusing for me to find it. I distinctly remember it was you, though, with the name MsRobyn and a picture of you for an avatar and everything. I dunno, maybe I misremembered. There doesn’t seem to be an account called MsRobyn or MissRobin or MsRobin at DJ, though, so if nobody else remembers that and finds a link, I’ll retract it. I just remember that someone was over there threatening to “out” one of the snarkers over here with his IP address, and I was pretty sure it was you.

What I’m talking is the group of dopers who were so offended by one poster’s behavior that they co-operatively published an online How-To Guide to stalking this woman. This included gathering together all the personal information she had ever revealed into one convenient thread, along with directions on how to use it to find out who she was and where she lived and where her kids went to school. This was coupled with thinly veiled threats to rat her out to her husband and report her boyfriend to his desk sergeant, which supposedly would get him into trouble.
Hostile; MsRobyn, Liberal, Guin, TubaDiva, Q.E.D., TDN, Otto, Skip and many others, (to a lesser degree me) are favorite targets over there. I think you mistook a Steal this Account (mean-hearted) parody with reality. You might want to apologize to MsRobyn.
CarnalK, you must admit, you do enjoy wallowing on the mud and maybe instigating some of the stuff in both locations? The talk of stalking **Sampiro ** appears over-the-top to me, but surely you won’t deny taking some pleasure in taking an occasional shot at him and others? You especially appear to go after TubaDiva.
I recognize that many of your complaints are also constructive criticism, but you also dredge up old and in message board terms, ancient trauma from time to time more than most posters.

I agree with this actually (the horror! I’m agreeing with you for the first time this week, Hostile Dialect. I do believe this is the first sign of the weekly end of times, yes? 
). I also agree with lobstermobster that for the most part it is absolutely harmless- just people saying what the rest of us are thinking while reading some of the more ridiculous threads posted here. Human nature, blah blah blah. But I do agree that sometimes (and I’d argue those instances are incredibly few and far between), some folks go overboard- namely in the case of MizGrand and her whole fiasco.
That said, the moderators over there do their best to delete any personal stuff like addresses as quickly as possible and then attempt to implement systems to stop that from happening again.
And to be honest, I have a theory that there is probably one or two assholes over that way who like to hear themselves talk and take advantage of the anonymous posting to basically argue with themselves. One time when I was being snarked on, someone gave me a DeadJournal code because they thought I was handling it well (well, er, thanks?) and because I’ve got a code, I get immediate email replies when someone posts to something I say. What’s funny is that the most. . . colorful. . . of it all comes all at once. Like, I’ll get 10 replies, all from anonymous posters, within a 2 minute period. Call me crazy, but that says to me you’ve got a few people abusing the anonymous system to be total douchebags.
For the most part, I think it’s fair to say most of the posters over there are you average nice and respectable Doper (attributes I do not claim to apply to myself- particularly the respectable part :p).
I’ve said my piece about Sampiro in the last thread where he exploded about the Snarkers. My efforts garnered me a swift and brutal tongue lashing that sure as hell put me in my place. 
That said, I actually agree with the OP (and really, this goes for anyone who is overly concerned with what anyone is saying about them, Snark Pit or otherwise): why worry? I was originally sent over there because they were snarking on me and, to be totally honest, it was more funny than any thing. What do they say about me? I’m fat- true dat. I’m careless in my posting and often having spelling errors or improperly used idioms- true dat. I work for the family business and have a pretty easy life for a college student- true dat. I think Marines are hot- definitely true dat. The worst thing was probably when a stalker from the Dope (who isn’t around anymore) somehow got his hands on a salacious picture of me and posted it all over there (I’m so over explaining how it happened, PM if you must know)- and even then, the moderator deleted the picture for the most part.
But in the end, who cares? It’s a bunch of strangers talking shit about you. I can’t fathom how any adult can be bothered by it. As I see it, either I ignore it or I take it for what it is: childish, but sometimes funny gossip. And I’m saying all of this as a frequent snark target.
Eh, I think it is only a handful that hate you or want you banned. I can’t even muster up a dislike for you. You are intelligent and witty and suffer from the same as many of us of being a bit of an asshole.
Frequent target? They love you there. I think for some of the snarkers that you and **lobstermobster ** are the girls that will talk to them.
I think the only reason anyone likes me is that it’s obvious I don’t take myself too seriously. Not to say it wasn’t disturbing when the whole picture fiasco happened, but I quickly realized that there was absolutely nothing I could do, so I may as well just roll with it. The fact that I didn’t run around screaming and posting in 72 point font is probably the reason if anyone at all anywhere has any respect for me (God knows there are no other reasons to respect me ).
And if you read the first (several, actually) snark threads about me, they were pretty vicious. Sure, now the jokes are limited to saying I have one boob (picture thing, again) or that I’m fat, but there was a time where it was pretty mean. But I mean, why care? It’s a bunch of anonymous people making jokes- sure, some are too far, but it’s no matter to me. Hell, some of it is even really funny.
There were a few nasties about ‘me too’*, but it seems to be down to one or two posters now that dislike me. It took me a while, but in my case, I thought it was better to just not post there. I foolishly tried to defend myself a few time there. That was silly.
