I don’t know if they still target me or not, though I doubt it. Since, I don’t even read what they say about me, they can’t hurt me and so they can’t relish the fact that they are hurting their target. They like it when they know their target is reading what they say, you see. I’m sure you can find some of their previous snark about me. I’ve got only a very shaky grasp on the whole snarkpit phenomenon (and I don’t have much interest in becoming more knowledgeable about it), but I’m a little bemused by Sapo referring to it as a “sister” site to the SDMB. Wouldn’t that tend to imply a somewhat more convivial relationship?
I thought I saw a bit of bristling when Sapo brought it up in the OP, but not so much following his two subsequent assertions. It made me wonder if he was trolling for a negative reaction, or if he really does see the two sites as metaphorical siblings.
Anyway, is there even any consensus on what is implied by the term “sister site”, or “sister board”? I can easily think of OpalKat’s Fathom board as a “sister” board; the other, not so much.
I read both boards daily. If people want to post about their personal shit, how fucked up they are, and try to elicit sympathy here, which is fine, they will get ragged on over there.

I personally think all this shit is funny as hell. I find it infinitely amusing that Dopers are so freaked out about snarkboards, and get into so much shit with each other about snark “over there”. Message boards are like what CB radio has become. There is always somebody listening in waiting to bust your balls.

And normally Sampiro is very good at it, when he’s talking about his mother or sister or other eccentrics in his life, from the perspective of the relatively sane observer trying not to get sucked into their insanity. This most recent effort has an air of “LOOK AT ME, LOOK AT HOW IRREPRESSIBLY WILD AND CRAZY I AM! WATCH AS I RANT CRAZILY (while making sure to run spell-check before posting), LOOK! LOOK! LOOK!” which is a huge turn-off.
I hope this isn’t a no-no, but I gotta say I’ve smiled, chuckled and laughed out loud more at the stuff I’ve read over there than I ever have here. And it’s not the insults directed at Dopers that are so funny, it’s the way they gig each other. Those are some funny sumbitches over there!

Doesn’t it drain away interesting content if people are afraid they’re going to get shredded by some anonymous asshole for honestly pouring it out? Well Ruby, I hear ya, but I consider this board entertainment. I am genuinely sorry that some people who take it more seriously than I get ragged on for sincerely posting about personal stuff, and find solace here and get advice that may change their lives.
That being said, the shit will always be here, and if it irritates people that much, it might not be the right board to post about that stuff.

As for posting personal shit, well, it is a way to get a large number of opinions and POV’s in a short amount of time, from people you wouldn’t otherwise encounter. I find the wide variety of opinions interesting and sometimes quite enlightening. I think the benefits of posting outweigh the negatives, but you’re right, it’s important to keep perspective-- this is the World Wide Web, not a private club. People might be reading who aren’t your friends. Caveat scriptor. Learned that the hard way, and that had nothing to do with the other place.
Well said. I give people shit in the Pit a lot. I like the flaming back and forth, guess it goes back to my usenet days. But I wouldn’t even consider shitting on a MPSIMS thread about say kitty cats. Now if…never mind…
