Santo Rugger (RIP Santo Rugger)

I’m sure he’ll find new and creative was to make it…“sticky” again.

I raise a pint in your honor Santo.
Prost.

Excellent news, great to hear it.

I’m late to the party, but Go Santo Go!

Cheers.

Santo continues to move forward in tiny baby steps. They have started him on an incline table for PT. He did an awesome job the first time - 30 degrees for 10 minutes, then 20 degrees for 30 minutes the next day. He is starting to lift his legs at the suggestion of the therapists during his leg routine. He’s tracking more and is much more alert. The goal is still for him to progress to a point to withstand 3 hours of therapy each day.

We are still hopeful and appreciate the continued support and prayers.

Thanks for the update. It’s good to hear he’s doing well.

I’m late, too, but also sending best wishes for a full recovery to Santo! My cousin had a brain injury and was in a coma and semi-conscious for some time, and though her recovery was slow, she’s pretty much her old self now. I hope Santo has the same kind of success!

Very cool, I’m guessing the table is designed to get him to eventually be strong enough to stand? Hopefully he’ll be back posting soon.

Thanks for finding the time to update us! It’s good to hear such great news!

excellent news!

Thank you so much for the updates!

I keep your son in my thoughts and send him gobs of positive vibes!

Happy Birthday, Rugger! Wake up and join the party!

Happy Birthday big guy.

He gets an incline table? So jealous! When I was in recovery I didn’t have one and ended up passing out a couple times from the sitting up and everything. Lucky bum.

Keep it up dude, sounds like you’re doing way awesome.

Go for it, big guy!

Happy Birthday, Santo! Glad to hear you’re progressing.

So, where’s posting to the board in the rehab plan? We think it should be a high-priority skill to re-acquire.

I saw the thread was unstickied. It’s good to hear Santo’s doing better.

Any news on Santo’s progress?

Inquiring explosive minds want to know.

According to comments on Facebook, “[a friend] said you were being very responsive today, and you kept turning your head toward those who were speaking”. Sounds like great progress to me!

Santo Rugger continues to take small baby steps toward recovery. The physical therapists are working to help him hold his head up and work on his core muscles, while putting some weight on his feet. As you can well imagine, these things exhaust him and he gets a good nap before he starts speech therapy. We are still hopeful that he will progress soon on the coma scale so he can get to rehab for more intense therapy. We are learning that recovery from a TBI is not linear and so we find ourselves trying to be patient on the days when he is just too tired to do one more thing.

SantoRuggersMom, that he’s going until he’s too tired to do more is great. As long as he does everything he can then he’s making as much progress as he’s capable of. That kind of tenacity will be one of the keys to his recovery.
He’s been a real fighter and you and your husband’s strength will also be one of those keys.
Hang in there.
