I can’t believe he would be mad, this is partly how you and your husband are coping with his accident. This is something much bigger than anyone can cope with alone, it’s a team effort.(I’m sure Pat would understand that.)
And I hope you’ll continue posting after this is resolved.
Oh, I don’t think he’d be mad you were on the boards. I believe he would think it’s great that you’ve discovered us.
I too am amazed at how often you come back to update us and hope you know how much we’re pulling, not just for **Santo, **but for you and the rest of the family too. You have amazing inner strength!
I’m sorry to post to such a clearly un-mundane and un-pointless thread as this one with such snark - please forgive me, I’m a terrible person, and the grammar nazis made me do it. Actually, as many of the other posters in this thread, I don’t know **Santo **and he most certainly does not know me but I have been following this thread from when it was just one or two pages long and I’m really hoping things will turn out for the best, and that they do so soon! For now all I can do is wish Santo and his family all the best and tell them that I deeply admire them for the way they seem to be dealing (as far as I can tell based on the posting in this thread) with this unmitigated hellishness!
I haven’t posted in a while in this thread, but just wanted to let Santo’s mom know that I think of him often and am praying for his recovery! Thanks again for so faithfully keeping us up to date. His personality certainly shone through here at Straight Dope. I have often caught myself snickering at a recollection of something he’d posted here.
It’s been two weeks since I’ve seen Pat and was I pleased to see that he is so much more awake and alert than when I left! He’s working really hard in therapy and is able to do at least 4 minutes on the bike (they pull his wheelchair up to the pedals). They’ve also been working to get him to stand and put weight on his feet. One can tell how hard he works, because he really starts sweating! He is on the verge of being able to press a buzzer once for yes or twice for no.
Today my hubby and I made New Mexican food for the staff and patients. It was such a big hit. It reminded me of when we went to one of the rugby tournaments and cooked for the team in Santa Fe.
We are so pleased with his progress. It is both exciting and scary to know that he will be going home in just a few short weeks.
Thanks for the update, SantoRuggersMom. That’s wonderful progress.
I’m acquainted with a young lady (age 14) with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. She has a saying that I think is very profound… You don’t know how strong you are until strength is all you have. You’re a strong woman and SantoRugger will be proud to learn that mom is now a Doper.
SantoRuggersMom, I know what this is about, and I’m glad Pat is kicking ass so quickly! Please tell him (respectfully) that there are a few of us ready to get him back to explosive work, so we can play with his toys. He’s shared a few professional tidbits with me, that I’m more than thrilled to tell him I’ve taken his advice and gotten the “Blue and White” books on my order list.
Please, tell him that I’m following his explosives advice–he’s been a teacher to me.
Tripler
Now a man better at work, thanks directly to him.
Such a thrill to open the Dope to such good Pat news! Most excellent progress on both the physical therapy and communication fronts. Thanks, SantoRuggersMom!
Santo continues to improve in baby step increments. He is much more alert and aware and seems to recover more quickly when he gets tired. He is scheduled to come home on Nov. 10 and we are making home modifications for him. I won’t see him for a few weeks, but I’ll give you an update when I can.
Thanks for your continued best wishes and prayers.
Pat is going on an outing to a car museum tomorrow. How cool is that? My hubby said that Pat was extremely alert today and raised his eyebrows when asked if he’d like to hear a story!
