Santo Rugger (RIP Santo Rugger)

Wonderful news!

I feel almost doctor-like after reading up on Baclofen and seeing that its main use is in MS, which one of SRM’s previous posts had made me think of.

I keep thinking I have to buy him a card - but of course, only when I’m nowhere near a card store! :smack:

Wow, in my absence I totally missed this saga, too. However, it’s most excellent to hear how far he’s come, and I’m sure he will continue to claw his way back until he’s routinely telling people off and asking for a beer. It’s great to hear of the progress reports though, and wish for his continued quest toward copping a feel from that cute therapist.

Now I’m all teary-eyed at work!! Thanks so much for the great news.

Wow this is really great news! I hope this means a new era of progress for Pat!

this is the finest kind of news.

moving him to the facility in colorado was just the ticket. i know it is very difficult having him so far from you. the progress he has made there is just fantastic.

hopefully you will see his bright smile in person soon.

Three cheers for Santo and SantoFam

Yay! Excellent news. Now to go read up on the stuff…

Great news!

Yes! Let us know how the Baclofen drip goes.

Yay Santo!!! And SantoRuggersMom!

More good news - Pat will soon be introduced to pureed foods. This is so exciting and I think one of the next steps to getting better. His good friend will occasionally sneak a dum dum sucker and give him a lick. He’s not supposed to have it - but he absolutely loves it. I think eating again will help him in so many ways. He’s having surgery early tomorrow and due to the quick scheduling of it, I won’t be able to be in Denver. It’s both scary and exciting to think of him coming home. Twenty-seven years ago they gave him to us to bring home and we had absolutely no idea what we were doing. I feel exactly the same today, only he’s 100x bigger! Have I mentioned that he’s gifted? I miss his wit and Patrick-logic so much! He exudes a charm that is unexplainable. People are drawn to him and this is such a good thing for him right now.

And yes, the speech therapist is very cute! It is so exciting to see how all of the staff get excited about Pat’s progress.

Thanks for all your support. It’s really great to know that so many are in his corner (and mine!)

Excellent news! Glad he’s continuing to improve. Thanks for the updates!

This is most excellent news!!!

I’m so happy to hear that Pat is getting better little by little. I had the good fortune to meet Pat about a year and a half ago and **SRM **is right about the charm. It’s impossible to not like him.

It will. A couple of years ago my brother couldn’t eat for about three months following a series of surgeries, and he did miss it badly. Here’s betting that Pat works very hard on the food.

I knew this was the right thread to read on a day when I could do with some good news. Great to hear that he’s making such fantastic progress!

Man, this is great news. It seems like such a big step along the path to recovery. Hopefully, those steps will come quicker once he’s able to eat real food and sitting up his half way to typing.

I agree that this is important to help him recover, in terms of having the morale to continue his therapy. I don’t know how he was being fed before, but if pureed food is a step UP from it, I can’t imagine it was very good. It’s probably very depressing to not be able to eat actual food, let alone candy, and being able to eat something better, even if it’s only a little bit better, would still give him a psychological boost, I think.

Thinking of a big rugby guy who blows things up and a little dum dum–very sweet image  Go Santo go!
