Sappy songs you are unapologetic about loving

How could I forget Mary Chapin Carpenter’s “This Shirt”?

And “God’s Will,” by Martina McBride?

OK I’ll own it. IIRC there was a cartoon (Nat’l Lampoon?) where a pianist has the donations jar and it says, “Requests-$5. Feelings-$500.”

Oh, Okay. Top this:

Mary Chapin Carpenter - John Doe No. 24 - Bing video

But again, it’s not sappy at all, so I shouldn’t have posted it here. Muskrat Love is Sappy, not this. Oh, I’m in the wrong thread.

I like this version better.

I’m a sucker for The Seekers:

I get drippy over this one.

And yes, it must have been a cold day in the studio…

I’m not sure what makes a song sappy. But here are some of mine, I won’t list the ones that have already been mentioned (try not to anyway):

Thunder Island - Jay Ferguson
Love & Affection - Nelson
Every Time I Think of You - The Baby’s
I’d Really Love to See You Tonight - England Dan & John Ford Coley
Fallin’ in Love - Hamilton, Joe Frank & Reynolds
Don’t Pull Your Love Out on Me Baby - Hamilton, Joe Frank & Reynolds
With Your Love - Jefferson Starship
A Love Song - Loggins & Messina
I Want it that Way - Back Street Boys
Daisy Jane - America

And I know I’ll get lots of crap for this one -

Muskrat Love - America (not Capt & Tennille)

“Unchained Melody”, by the Righteous Brothers.

Righteous Brothers - Unchained Melody [Live - Best Quality] (1965) - YouTube

So swoony! Love it!

(Watched some reaction videos, of another generation hearing it for the first time. Performed live, no auto tune, etc. It was fun!)

No crap here, I like this, too.

I love the C&T version. The tape deck chipmunks I mean muskrats are perfect.

Hamster Love:

When my wife Pepper Mill was still working at the dentist’s office many years ago a little girl was waiting there and this song came over the sound system. Idly, my wife asked her if she knew that name of the song. She didn’t so Pepper told her it was called “Unchained Melody”.

The little girl was indignant.

“That’s not Unchained Melody! That’s the music from Ghost!” (The movie Ghost had just come out, and her parents had obviously taken her to se it.)

“It was sad when Sam died,” the little girl went on. “It was sad when he died again.”

:grinning: :grinning: :grinning: Thank you, I somehow missed that one.

Muskrat Love is the very definition of sappy. So too is Unchained Melody from Ghost.

Lots of my favorite songs upthread. A great thread here, thanks @dropzone!

I don’t think these have been mentioned.

The Commodores – Three Times a Lady

The Carpenters – Goodbye to Love

America – Sister Golden Hair

Heatwave – Always and Forever

The Sound of Music – Edelweiss

Always and Forever was my high school girlfriend’s and my song. She picked the song to be “ours”. I was never too keen on it but it brings back good memories from those days. And no, not those kind of memories. For two summers I hung out with her family, going to baseball games, camping at Otis Reservoir in MA, playing croquet in their yard. Good times!

And Sister Golden Hair reminds me of my college girlfriend. I went through a “blonde phase” down in Santa Barbara.

My daughter says the thing she remembers most about our apartment in Moscow is Enya playing on my stereo while I made spaghetti in the kitchen.

That reminds me…

Several Bee Gees songs:

“To Love Somebody” (but NOT the Michael Bolton version!)
“Fanny Be Tender with My Love”
“Love So Right”
“Too Much Heaven”

“To Love Somebody” (but NOT the Bee Gees version!)

then one I played at least once on my homebound commute for a stretch. See: The OP,in regards to my romantic tendencies.

My ultimate guilty pleasure:

“I’d Do Anything” from Oliver!
