Goodbye Satan.
In the center of the mire between the “Tuba (or Ed) plays favorites” faction, and the “Satan was worth putting up with.” faction is a bit of solid ground. We should look it over, because we end up living on it.
Of course Tuba ( or Ed) plays favorites. I don’t know how many tee shirts and coffee mugs they give her per year for being ringmaster of this seven ring circus, but it certainly is not enough to justify a micromanaged review of her every decision. But, there was never a more vocal group of micromanagers than the teeming millions.
Let me reiterate my dumbfounded awe when I actually considered the plea of the SD moderator, “I have to read every post.”
Gaaaaahk! Run away, run away, run away!
Now if you read every post, and someone is relatively entertaining, fairly productive, coherent, and uses a prose style somewhat resembling the Little Brown Handbook, you are gonna cut that guy a bit of slack, when he screws up. It is not strictly fair, no. But if the guy hangs around for three or four years, and generally puts out a prose product worth reading, the folks who have to read it are going to cut them a break, whatever the rules say. It is a fact of human nature.
That was Satan. He produced a fairly large amount of high quality board fodder. He had a good rep. He was entertaining. And because of it, he got a break. He got another break. He got a third, and to hear some tell it, he got four and five, too. But he didn’t want a break, he wanted a fight. He got that too. He lost. Big surprise.
