Satan Slept Here! -or- Millenium Road Trip!

May i just say how much fun it was to tell Emily, “Satan is coming to see us on christmas eve”

Magnificent to behold - Greatly to be praised.

L.A. to Seattle can be done in two days, but it’s a long-ass two days. Been there, done that, several times. Be sure to check road conditions – weather can play hell with it.

Raleigh to L.A. in seven days is no problem so long as, again, you don’t run into weather. Done that one a couple of times, too.

I LOVE to drive cross country, but I’ve never done it this late in the year. Be interested to see the “journal” of your travels.

Hmmmm, if no other Chicagoans are able to put you up, I DO have the room, but that means I’d have to clean. I could probably handle that, as long as I have some notice. Just let me know.

Satan,Yes! Will hope to see you on 12-30! Pl and I will show you the town!

It’s doable, in the sense that I think you could live through it. If you can keep the same itinerary and sprinkle about 5 or 6 more days over it, I think you might enjoy it. You’ve got three 1100+ mile days; I can do 1100 miles in a day, but not much else.

Just a thought,…keep us all advised.

Satan? Darlin? As someone who spends WAY TOO DAMN MUCH TIME traveling, I think you are pushing the schedule a bit much… if ya want to ENJOY this trip, I think you should allow a bit more time to go from A to B…

I would NOT be a happy camper if someone booked a tour with this kind of schedule in the time frame you are allowing (Wait!! That IS my normal tour schedule!!).

Besides… you seem to be assuming that NOTHING will go wrong on this trip…ALWAYS a bad idea <G> If you can, I recommend giving yourself some kind of pad time, just in case…

Yes, I am a brat…and it’s hard work!!

I agree that the itinerary is a bit crowded, esp. if you want to visit each host for a while. And if you plan on having more than a couple adult beverages, you have to consider time for sleeping and pissing… not to mention the occasional one-nighter.

Satan - may I suggest that you spread your trip out a little bit, otherwise all you will be doing is driving and sleeping and missing out on all the adventures.

Please tell your pants it’s not polite to point.

First of all, the blank days are what we used to call in the booking business “travel days.” They are designed to get me from point A to point B and see what I can along the way!

Most of the days where I am not having a long haul come to 8 or so hour trips, which should give me plenty of time to get to places and not be too killed.

I love driving, and once went r/t from Raleigh to Philly in a 24 hour period, as well as have driven from Raleigh to Vermont and back with only one day in between.

I don’t mind being on a schedule, in fact, plotting the course is as much fun as the trip itself!

So I think this is the routing I will be taking…

ChiefScott - You know our band Cutters played on your ship several months ago?

I’ll be starting a new thread shortly with detailed information…

You guys are the best, and I anxiously await meeting as many of you as I can!

Bleah. Get an account. Learn system. Find thread. Post. Bleagh.

The things I do for friends I haven’t met yet…

There are three tomes you definately need: the Reader’s Digest (off the beaten path) which I happen to have and will quote freely from, Book Your Own #*@&!% Life, which I’m proud to discover (in the last 2 minutes from google) can be found at http://www.byofl.org/
(wow!) My copy is an old 1993 issue which served me well when I went walkabout. Finally, get all the AAA books you can. Occasionally toy find really cool things in them.

Unfortunately the two coolest spots in the US are both campgrounds (one has dinosaur tracks and a quarry for diving - in New Mexico east of the volcano), the other has hot and cold springs (Sulphur Springs, Oklahoma).

I’m also not going to give you listings from BYOFL as they have an online search (very cool - complete with bands, venues, and crash space).

That takes me down to Off the Beaten Path which I will actually give listings to later as my wife has just walked in the door with Gyros…

Ok. So it’s been an unproductive post so far.

  • Johnny Angel -

The old antiquated book thing: BLUE HIGHWAYS by William Least Heat Moon is a swell road book. Got several off the beaten path guidebooks you’re welcome to peruse, if not “borrow” while yer here, Dark Lord…

Hey Satan -

I hope we can get together on 12/18 when you’re in Dallas. E-mail me with the where and when! And remember…Dallas is the strip-club capital of America!!!
