First post-election ep, Anne Hathaway is hosting, Rihanna is the musical guest, and large swaths of the Tri-State area are still a diastor area.
Jay Pharoah seems to have tweaked his Obama, and is worse off for it. Too much of his Denzel seeped in.
I thought Ann Hathaway was great in all her skits. The rest of the show made me kind of sleepy.
They finally did a parody of a show I’ve actually seen, namely Homeland. It was the only skit that made me laugh.
Fucking pathetic.
In the entire 90 minute show, the only bit that I personally found even a little funny was a 2 minute (pre-taped) throwaway faux commercial for fake allergy pills for people who pretend to be allergic to things that they actually just don’t care for; Between the election and the storm, they had a wealth of subjects ripe for satire, and yet the best they can do is to show Mitt Romney drowning his sorrows in milk?!?
HAW HAW HAW
(That said, there is a new brunette cast member who is pretty cute—She was the one in that dreadful “Teen talk show” sketch with Anne Hathaway and another other new cast member, a “full-figured” girl who will be channeling Melissa McCarthy for the next 5 years)
It was the first time <I think> that I’ve seen the Obama impersonation, and all I could think was ‘why is he channelling Bill Cosby?’
The new girls have yet to make me laugh. The show definitely needs more Nasim. She’s the only reliably funny female cast member left. Ann Hathaway continued to show she would fit right in as a cast member (or in the case of this cast, rise above).
That opening sketch was so annoyingly toothless. I kept waiting for them to do something really cool … and it just never happened. Very, very frustrating.
This is more from about a week or two ago, but you know those weird commercials that Brad Pitt is doing? I don’t even know what it’s for-- some men’s cologne or something. I first saw them on SNL and thought it was part of the show. Did anyone else have this experience? I was floored when I was watching some show a few days later and saw the same ads.
I watched the first 20 or 30 minutes, and didn’t think anything at all was particularly funny. The song during Hathaway’s opening monologue was pretty dreadful, and what the hell was that skit with the guy who spewed green vomit in that woman’s face?
I didn’t see it, but apparently Jay Pharoah’s Obama is a cross between Bill Cosby and Denzel Washington?
Actually, that sounds pretty good.
The commercials were for Chanel and SNL did parody them. See here for one example.
During both Pharoah’s Obama impersonation and whoever it was’s impersonation of Ellen DeGeneres, I was straining to hear any resemblance to the people being impersonated. With no success.
Agreed. She was hilarious as Claire Danes and Katie Holmes–much better than the SNL cast around her.
Yes! I love Nasim. One of the few current recurring SNL characters I actually like is her precocious teen girl overly attached to her mom.
I actually found that bit funny because it was so bizarre.
Not the best impersonation in the world granted but the writing was damn funny…
“This election was yours to lose — 8 percent unemployment, five-dollar gas, I even gave you a one-debate head start and on top of that, I’m black. But you still couldn’t take me on. Watching you run for president was like watching someone on roller skates trying to climb stairs. I also want to thank all those Republican congressmen who couldn’t stop talking about rape. Couldn’t help yourself could you?”
Inspired comedic genius…
On a more superficial note, did anybody think Anne Hathaway looked skinnier than usual?
On the bright side, all I could think was that the cast member doing Ellen (was that Kate McKinnon?) would be a hell of Christopher Walkin.
Losing weight for Les Mis…?
I would think so but didn’t that movie wrap several months ago? Does her next role also require her to be so thin?
