I happened across this “New Analysis” program on MSNBC the other day. What the…? They tried Donohue (ultra lefty) and that didn’t work, so now they’re trying this guy (ultra righty). Is that it? At least they were smart enough not to put him up directly against O’Reilly.
And the “Country” part, is that supposed to be a subliminal appeal to the Country Music demographic? The guy makes me squirm with embarrassment he’s so bad. It’s like something a high school TV show might resemble.
Does anyone think this show is going to last more than a few months?
If you want scary listen to Savage.
Every time I look at Joe Scarborough I think to myself, “There really is a Chanandler Bong!” Watching his show is like being scolded by Matthew Perry, without the Friends-style scarcasm or wit.
I think the “Country” part is supposed to refer to the goofy idea that his show is an island of sanity and reason, the promos for the show really try to sell the idea. Or maybe that the nation wouldn’t be so screwed up (in his eyes) if we followed his advice. His show is a pale copy of O’Reilly (which is bad enough) with the smugness turned down a little. Scarborough is too bland to pull off the “I know what’s best for the USA” act and make it stick.
Savage (well, at least he’s named correctly) has lots of energy but his TV show is too dumb and hate filled to be enjoyable. He reminds me of an angry drunk at a party who ruins the atmosphere because he thinks he has something to say and won’t shut up. I’ll take the rants in The BBQ Pit, anyday over him, at least there’s some thought put into the best ones there. I’ve only heard a few minutes of his radio show, just enough to know he’s on locally.
I know Jerry Nachman’s show is gone, is he out at MSNBC as managing editor also?
By hiring Scarborough, MSNBC lost any shread of respect that they ever had from me. I disliked this guy when he was representing Florida (Pensacola area) in Congress. Now everyone has the opportunity to see what an asshat he is. Gee, thanks, MSNBC.
And then, to rub it in, they go and hire Michael Savage?? I’ve never heard such racist, misogynist, hate-filled drivel on a cable news network–he makes O’Reilly look sensible in comparison.
By firing Donahue, and hiring these nutjobs, MSNBC is trying to out-FOX FOX. Which is the wrong way to go, IMHO.
I just figured it was a pun on the old Marlboro “Marlboro Country” ad campaign???
As for the show, yes, it’s just awful. It makes the FOXNews crap look competent. Every time I hear the MSNBC promos for the show’s ultra-right topic of the night, I think to myself, “I wonder if the promo voice ever stops and thinks ‘WTF am I saying into this microphone.’”
BTW, I tend to like FOX and their shows, but this guy is comedy. I didn’t realize he was in gov’t at one time. O’Reilly is a bit too full of himself these days. Well, maybe more than just “a bit”. But if you’ve ever seen him interviewed outside his show, he’s smart, quick, and REALLY funny.
I think they should do a Hannity/Colmes type show excpet with Dennis Miller and Bill Maher. That would be GREAT. BTW, does anyone else think that Colmes looks like Jeff Goldblum in the “The Fly” about half-way thru his transformation from human to fly?
I’ve never seen Savage except a few interviews on other shows. He’s a buffoon. Didn’t know he had a show on MSNBC. Man, that network is spiraling down the toilet fast.
Yep, he served four terms in the House: http://www.regularjoe.org/st_pete.htm
He also plays for a local rock band in Pensacola. That and his opposition to off-shore oil drilling in the Gulf of Mexico make him slightly more endearing than certain colleagues of his.
Nevertheless, his show on MSNBC is rubbish.
