Here’s what Michael Savage had to say to gay and women’s groups sending letters to MSNBC opposing his show:
“You rats. You stinking rats who hide in the sewers. You think you can go after my income? You think you can kill my advertisers? You think I’m Dr. Laura? You think I’m gonna roll over like a pussy? You’re wrong. I’m going to find out where you get your money from. You live by handouts, all of you. You live off grants, all of you. You’re a bunch of beggars, but you don’t know how lucky you are.”
As if attacking them personally wasn’t enough, he goes on to threaten them:
“If you continue this, we’re going to go after your funding sources. And we will do everything we can within the legal realm to cut off that funding. We are also going to go to the U.S. Justice Department under John Ashcroft. What you are doing is illegal. You think it’s 1965 and I’m South Africa? I’ve got news for you: it’s not 1965 and it ain’t South Africa. I’ll cut your funding off, and if you break the law any further, I’ll put you in jail.”
What, exactly, are they doing that is illegal? Sending letters to MSNBC? No, that’s legal. Well then certainly it must be being gay or a woman. Wait - that’s legal too.
I’m not sure what, exactly, he’s getting at, other than proving even further his ignorance, sexism, and homophobia.

Mmm, sort of off-topic, but I like the commentary that went along with the article: "An NBC statement said that “We respect the right of those who wish to protest. However, we also strongly defend his new show as a legitimate attempt to expand the marketplace of ideas.”
In recent weeks, MSNBC has expanded the marketplace of ideas by firing liberal host Phil Donahue and hiring Savage as well as right wing former-Congressmen Dick Armey and Joe Scarborough."
Hey before you start spewing at him, how about waiting to find out why he is (re)acting this way? Perhaps he has been threatened by them and he is responding in kind. You state that you don’t know what is being done that is ‘illegal,’ so don’t assign a reason for his actions.
By the way, I have no clue what this situation is about other than what you have posted, so I’m not taking up with him 'cuz I like him or something. I’m just saying you shouldn’t condemn him before you know why he said all that.
He said that because of groups which are loudly voicing their opposition to his new MSNBC show. I did some further reasearch, and it turns out that his point behind the “illegal” thing is that he says he might ask his listeners to pressure the DoJ to look into these gay and women’s rights groups to see if they are doing anything illegal. Not that he necessarily suspects they are, other than perhaps the sin of being gay.
It sounds like the gay and womens’ groups don’t want him on the air and they’re trying to pressure those advertisers that will be on his show. He’s fighting back with the same tactics. Pretty simple. He sounds like a crazy person, but he’s not the lone ranger there, now is he? Personally, I like to know who my enemy is. The more exposure this jerk gets, the deeper he digs his own grave.
Michael Savage is the closest thing I’ve seen to a real-life troll. And as to “why he acts this way”, it’s most likely because it got him a gig on MSNBC, not because of some past wrong. Witness his previous pit thread. I’m willing to bet there’ll be more to come.
Wow. I am shocked. A newsmedium source is hiring a controversial host for a show.
People will probably tune in regularly so they can disagree with their television sets, instead of writing MSNBC to tell said station their will not be watching the station anymore/at all and are boycotting MSNBC’s advertisers and those companies with which it is associated. In addition, they are not writing the actual advertisers to let said advertisers know that association/affiliation with MSNBC or its partner companies will result in a boycott of relevant products.
The almighty dollar at work. Controversy sells far more than honest, unbiased reporting, and this country’s newsmedia sources have shown which master they will serve until it stops working.
There was GD thread that referenced this thread, and what I said there applies here too (maybe better, since there’s some naughty language):
I wonder if I’ll ever see the day when people just don’t watch the things they dislike, instead of trying to get them off the air by scaring advertisers. I don’t have a clue what show is being protested, and others have decided that I shouldn’t even have a chance to see it and make up my own mind. Fuck 'em. I have no idea if he has a legal standing, but I hope Savage wins.
I despise all these groups who think they know better than I what I should watch. To hell with them all, whether they be lefties or conservatives.
Dammit, when I read the thread title, I thought the post was going to be about Randy Savage.
Snap into a Slim Jim! Ooooh yeeeah!
I do have a serious question, though. Why is it so gosh darn hard to find a liberal (or even moderate) talk show host that the masses would want to listen to? I, for one, do not enjoy cringing at every statement made by these clowns. Is it the controversy? The freak-show aspect of pundits like O’Reilly and Savage? Or do the majority of people in this country actually agree with these blowhards?
