Schlep Timbre (September Mini-Rants)

I don’t know for certain, but it would make sense that she’d be on-shift. Every place I’ve worked at expects you to, you know, leave, once you clock out. Or at the very least, not be in uniform and fucking about while the customers are there.

Maybe my appearance provokes some people. I’ve had several people mention it. At work a client asked me to pray with him. I told him I didn’t share his religion and he replied with an oh, you’re Jewish thing. Maybe I look it, my mom was.

Had a landlady long ago invite me repeatedly to come to her church, usually on a Sunday morning as I loaded my kayak on my car. I eventually thanked her for the invitation, but told her I was an atheist. She never spoke to me again (which I considered a win).

Yes my field of fucks given has been harvested and lies barren.

Yes indeed!!

I got an email of religious glurge once from a co-worker. It was titled “because I know you are a Christian”. I replied, “Actually, I’m an atheist”, and she never spoke to me again.

The only time I make an appearance in church is for funerals of well loved family/friends.

A few years ago a beloved uncle died and my cousin chose me and another non religious family member to do the readings (Catholic service).

I was sure the stained glass windows would explode.

Winner, winner, chicken dinner!

When I accompanied my gf to her family’s church for her dad’s funeral there was joking about the roof caving in. It did not.

Saturday night after driving 8 hours S on I75 I open my Hilton app to book a hotel room for the night. We drag ourselves to the front desk and announce we’re here direct us to our room please. She says wut? You’re rez is for next Saturday and we’re sold out for the Tennessee game. :exploding_head::woman_facepalming:

Fudge and there was a nice steak house nearby I was already preordering in my head.

Cancelled that rez and back on the highway 40 miles down the road. Got a room. The last one!

Return trip I’m booking early.

So you weren’t at this church?

Fuck cancer! My beloved maternal grandmother died from cancer. My other grandmother, who was an evil bitch, died of Alzheimer’s. So, there’s at least one good thing Alzheimer’s has done for me.

To the Rant- After the moving company we hired- announced when they showed up that they only took items in boxes. The woman we spoke to when we got a quote and booked the date never mentioned this. So a bunch of stuff in trashbags, etc was left behind. They did the bare minimum and the only guy who spoke English was rude to me and the woman I love. They found a dead rodent at my old place and didn’t bother to tell me about it (so I could clean it up and keep it from stinking up the place. The movers were there when I had Joe O uninstall the window AC unit at the old place) After all that, he demanded a big tip.

So, I put a post on Facebook asking for friends to help me finish moving. I got one response. Howard said he could help (great news because he is strong and can work for hours) and that he would bring his van. I was wondering if I would have to hire a second moving company. Then, Nick called. I haven’t heard from Nick in years. He was once part of a Dungeons & Dragons group that met every week. To praise him I will simply say two things- I am in many ways a stereotypical Jewish boy AND Nick has the same loving and giving personality as my beloved mother. Nick said he would be happy to help. He had a van and could bring an unroofed 12x8 foot trailer. After more conferencing, we decided we probably would not need the trailer. Howard, Nick and my betrothed worked quickly, carefully and without complaint. This rant is not about them.

When we got to the new building, Howard informed me that he smelled gas. I quickly called Philly Gas Works and they sent two men right over. They found an internal gas leak in the oven/range. They informed me that they were turning off the gas to keep me safe. I said fine. Now, I have to call management tomorrow and inform them that my stove/oven has an internal leak and needs to be replaced or repaired. When I first inspected the new apartment several weeks ago I infomed them- One of the three light bulbs in the bathroom needs to be replaced, the leftmost window in the kitchen won’t stay open, the frame in the middle kitchen window comes out of the track when the window is opened- I discovered this when it almost fell on my head. The leftmost window in the living room has no screen. The rightmost window in the living room is stuck and will not open.

I also informed management repeatedly and through proper channels that when they repainted the walls after the last tenant left, they aparently used some sort of spray device and failed to cover the plate with the coaxial cable I need to plug my router into. I told them I work from home and that I need an internet connection to do my job.

Just in case maintenance failed to fix the coaxial cable in time, I made an appointment with Comcast. I had to repeatedy explain the situation. They kept saying their equipment showed I had working internet. I kept explaining that I had functional internet at the apartment I was soon moving out of. At my new apartment, the outer contact of the coaxial cable had paint in all the threads. The inside contact, where the needle bit goes, was filled with paint. I finally made them understand. The worker who came was polite, cheerful and efficient. He removed the plate, snipped the cable and put on a new head. I took the text survey just so I could give him a good review.

Management at my building does not get a good review. I’ve asked for the same repairs quite a few times. No repairs have been made.

PS

I forgot that while the mailbox key they provided turns the lock on my mailbox, the locking mechanism is broken and will no longer keep the mailbox closed. Fortunately, the mailboxes are inside the building and nobody can open the front door without entering the code on a keypad.

Have you tried pressing on her belly to see if that changes the channel?

Re Lost Remote

I can’t remember if you said it was an Xfinity remote or another type. Every Goodwill I have been to in past two decades or so has a few functional Xfinity remotes for sale for about $3.

That belly gets lots of pets and snuggles (until the claws come out!) because she’s about the softest and fluffiest kitty ever, but no, no functional buttons.

It’s not Xfinity, they aren’t a service here in Canada at all that I’m aware of. I can probably get another fairly easily, but I don’t want to. I want to solve this!

Looked over the couch again today. Fortunately our fuzzy demon has destroyed the bottom fabric of the couch, so I could reach my hand in and feel around in there and … nothing. No remote that I can find. I was so hopeful!

Darn! I was so hoping you would find it today!

Me too! It was a good day otherwise, I was super optimistic!

Good - sometimes that kind of mental optimism can have positive outcomes!

Heh, that would scare the hell outa anyone!

On top of it all, taking care of final arrangements for my sister, and spending 2 days driving from Albuquerque, NM, back home to the Portland, OR area, got the call this morning that my mother passed. It never rains but it pours. So, back home, worn out, have to take tomorrow off work to start helping my dad deal with all the endless paperwork. Silver lining? At least I don’t have to continue on with the process of trying to get a guardianship over my mother, because she never had the POAs notarized.

A couple of days ago I looked for my cell phone for 5 minutes until I realized it was in my hand.

Oh, my goodness, I am so, so sorry.
