Trump EPA pick Scott Pruitt may have made a false statement under oath to the Senate

Pruitt — the attorney general of Oklahoma known for 14 lawsuits designed to fight regulations and cleanup efforts by the agency he hopes to lead — made the apparent false statement when referring to an ongoing environmental lawsuit involving several poultry companies in Arkansas.

During Pruitt’s campaign to become state attorney general, he received $40,000 in donations from those companies and law firms representing them, according to The New York Times. Once in office, he took an apparently less aggressive approach to pursuing the case than his predecessor.

In response to questions from Democratic Sen. Cory Booker of New Jersey during his confirmation hearing, Pruitt said: “I have taken no action to undermine that case. I have done nothing but file briefs in support of the court making a decision.”

Rivero and his team at Fusion found no evidence that Pruitt or his office had filed any briefs in support of making a decision with the case, apparently contradicting his claim under oath to the Senate.

In an independent review of publicly available documents from the case, Business Insider confirmed Rivero’s finding that no such briefs were filed since Pruitt took office.

Did Oklahoma attorney general’s office mislead Supreme Court on execution issue?

According to nationally published reports, Scott Pruitt’s office may have lied to the United States Supreme Court.

The controversy stems from the ongoing debate over the availability of certain drugs used for executions.

Pruitt has argued the state was forced to use the controversial drug midazolam because another execution drug called pentobarbital was no longer available.

To support that argument, the AG’s office filed a brief with the Supreme Court, which included a heavily redacted letter from a pharmacy in Texas.

That pharmacy had manufactured pentobarbital for the state of Texas.

Pruitt’s office allegedly misrepresented that the letter had been sent to Oklahoma.

An unredacted version of the letter shows that is not true.

He also has not provided 3,000 requested pieces of correspondence between his office and oil and gas companies.

He has been known to copy and paste company letters into his official Oklahoma AG letterhead.

Records show EPA’s Pruitt used private email, despite denial

WASHINGTON (AP) — Environmental Protection Agency administrator Scott Pruitt occasionally used private email to communicate with staff while serving as Oklahoma’s attorney general, despite telling Congress that he had always used a state email account for government business.

A review of Pruitt emails obtained by The Associated Press through a public records request showed a 2014 exchange where the Republican emailed a member of his staff using a personal Apple email account.

Emails released under court order last week in response to a different public records request yielded additional examples where emails were addressed to Pruitt’s private account, including a 2013 exchange with a petroleum industry lobbyist who emailed Pruitt and a lawyer on the attorney general’s staff. That suggests Pruitt made his private email address available to professional contacts outside his office.

What troubles me most is not that politicians can be bought, but how cheaply they can be had.

I’m having a hard time getting two worked up about two emails sent from private accounts. I’m sure I’ve used a private email account to send work-related emails once or twice. Maybe the department’s email server was down or something. If there’s a pattern of communication with lobbyists being done using private methods, there will be something to be worked up about.

The issue isn’t so much the use of the private email, which is legal in Oklahoma. It’s the two years of delays of FOIA requests and lying under oath to Congress. I’m pretty sure lying under oath got Clinton #1 impeached and private emails got Clinton #2 shafted in the general election.

Well, it’s Oklahoma. Lower cost of living.

Consider that on a Monopoly board, you can buy and improve to the hotel level EVERY colored property at a total cost of $18,340. That’s probably roughly comparable to real estate dealing in Oklahoma. Forty grand goes a long way, know what I’m sayin’?
