Scottish DopeFest?

It’s weird. And impressive. I walked up Queen St and everything looked normal except for the US flag on top of that hotel at the front of the station. But as I got to George Square there were things like SEPTA maps, yellow traffic lights and Philly street signs all over the place.

I’m somewhat familiar with Philly from my time in PA - this was just weird.

I’ve been watching for this popping back on up on the board to no avail, so thought I’d have a go at trying to summarise where we’ve got to.

So far wanting to go for it:

Hermette - proposed the idea, suggested Glasgow or Edinburgh
Notquitekarpov - Edinburgh
Meurglys - Edinburgh
Hogfather65 - Glasgow
Baron Greenback
Me (Scougs) - Edinburgh or Glasgow
Jeneva - Glasgow or Edinburgh
Paul Parkhead - Glasgow or Edinburgh

Responded in thread without committing to Dopefest:
Scheidt-Hoch
Graememorrison

Logistically unlikely:
JessMagic

Strange answer:
Cicero

So I make that a select band of eight of us, four with a preference for Glasgow, three with a preference for Embra, one with no stated preference.

Maybe putting this back to the top will get a few other interested parties -otherwise who wants to grasp the nettle and start suggesting dates and venues?

Alternatively there are six that are happy to meet in Edinburgh (two exclusively so) and five happy to make it Glasgow (only one exclusively so).

So I would propose Edinburgh for starters, once the Festival is over so September.

How does a Friday night suit folk?

How would the Guildford Arms suit folk (classic boozer near to Waverley Stn)?

Well, obviously Edinburgh suits me. Friday night in September would be good too - and I was going to suggest the Guildford. Handy for bus and train. And I know that they’re the usual venue for TripAdvisor Edinburgh meets, so we might be able to book an area like TA do - if there’s enough of us that warrant it.

Actually, I’d prefer Glasgow, and couldn’t do an evening in Edinburgh at all, sorry!
If we’re doing Edinburgh, a daytime meet would suit me much better. Daytime’s better for Glasgow too, but I could at least do early evening over here

You’re the one that opened up with the suggestion of Edinburgh as an option hermette!

Unless you are talking weekends then I cannot imagine many will be able to make a daytime meet - a thing called work getting in the way don’t you know?

Yes, and I can make Edinburgh on a weekend, hence why I suggested it.

Not sure where your dig about work came from? There’s a Workplace Griping thread in the Pit if you have problems, don’t take it out on me.

Apologies Scrougs, didn’t mean it to be weird.

I’d love to be there, as I love Scotland. However, living in Australia means it takes a lot of planning.

Effectively count me out.

I think you’ve counted me as exclusively Edinburgh, but I’m ok with Glasgow. Really.

Likewise, logistically it would be tricky for me and Parkhead to get home from an evening event in Edinburgh, daytime would be much better. We’d have to get back not only to Glasgow, but beyond. An evening event in Glasgow is possible, but we’d still have to make sure to catch the last train out to Hamilton, so earlier is better.

I can turn up, depends upon the date being set, rather than the location

So, is there still any interest in a Scottish Dopefest?

Hardest thing to figure out is gonna be whose round it is. Depending on when it was I might be persuaded to go.

I’m still interested, and would like to apologise for being such a snarky cow in post 27. I think that makes it my round?

PaulParkhead and I won’t be able to stand too many rounds on our income, but we will gladly drink to the health of anyone who wants to get one.

I’ll do my pathetic-female thing of paying for the round, if someone physically goes up to the bar to get it for me

Okay - so which bar, in which city?

Dear Snarky Cow, if you are shouting I will go to the bar every round…

(And why didn’t you consider that nick when you changed your name? )

I still vote for Glasgow on the behalf of PaulParkhead and myself, as Edinburgh is both too far and too expensive a trip for us just now.

I think it would infringe on MeanOldLady’s copyright. And I don’t want to mess with her

Yeah, Glasgow’s much easier for me!

Glasgow is easier for me only in that it’s further west than Edinburgh.
