Scranton, PA Dopers - need a rendezvous spot

Not for anything clandestine. Scranton is just about midway between my mom’s home and mine. Due to some unexpected changes in plans Junior’s summer visit to Grandma’s now involves 4 round trips instead of 2 and we thought that maybe meeting in the middle for 2 of them would be an easier alternative.

What we need is a family friendly place to meet for lunch, easy to get to from I-81.

any suggetions?

A friend with 35 years of Scranton experience just sent me the following:

The Davis Street Exit (I forget the number) will have signs to the Shoppes at Montage. At the Shoppes are several mall-type chain restaurants. Across Glenmaura Blvd. are a couple more chain restaurants, and a movie theater.

A little further up Montage Mountain Road is PNC Field, home of the Scranton Wilkes Barre Yankees (AAA affiliate). PNC Field contains The Stadium Club, a restaurant that overlooks the field. Pretty decent food, but maybe hard to get a seat if there’s a game going on.

That’s probably the easiest to get to whether coming from 81 north or south, and getting back onto 81 is a snap.

I believe there is an NBC shop at the Steamtown Mall downtown if they’re hoping to snag some Office supplies, btw.

Hal, that’s perfect! It seems to be quite close to the highway and plenty of window shopping for whoever arrives first.
