Screamers Mafia

I ain’t saying yet. IF it’s re-recordable, it could more or less confirm a second player, provided they were able to use it tonight. I’d rather the scum not know who they need to kill tonight to destroy the box as well.

So remind me of the timing of events. You received the music box on Night 2, recorded your message on Night 3 and passed it on to someone else on Night 4. So we’ll have to wait until at least Day 6 to see a result from all that passing around? What if your target is Scum or dies prior to giving us the results or while trying to see if it is re-recordable?

What is the reason you’ve been quiet? You just basically smudged four people for not voting while you yourself are … not voting.

I think Tom is probably Town. Tiltawhirl and Diver are impossible to get a read on at their level of participation. Scuba Ben – Drain Bead, Guiri, did you notice what I pointed out in my WoWs on CIAS and Chronos about both of them referencing him on Day Three? If so, what do you think about that? Do you buy it as deliberate distancing?

I’ve had no time since Thursday and my son is sick. I have no idea what I’m doing with my vote.

Actually I never had a scum feeling on you, I was more interested in the discussion around and to see who if anyone jumped on the potential band wagon.

I got what I wanted and therefore

Unvote Tom Scud

I am at a friends so can’t do anymore at the mo, but I will back back tomorrow to place my new vote.

You’re devious. I like that.

Huh. I’m pretty familiar with gender stuff & had never heard of ‘em’… sounds kind of vaguely Cockney.

In game terms after the great escape I’ve been cowering under a desk waiting to be nuked from orbit. I’m deseperately in need for a bit of surety.

I agree that at this point in the game it’s good policy to put low-participation players like me on the hot seat. Scuba Ben, would you like to review the two WoWs on me and refresh your memory? I’d be pleased to expand on any of the comments I have made and defend my votes to this point.

In re the case of Tom Scud, I’ve been following him as closely as I have anyone from the beginning. There are two things that strike me about his play which may have not received enough scrutiny. First, the ‘saving Chronos’ bit was not the only time which he described himself as controlling the vote. Might this be a bit of bleed-through from the exercise of the vote-buying politician power that helped seal Thing Fish’s fate? TS did start the TF bandwagon with a WoW and then was pretty single-minded in pursuing those players who were active after TF’s roleclaim but did not shift their votes to save him.

Second, I agree that TS has been pretty clever in stonewalling questions about his less transparently towny actions. He responds briefly and then continues with his large output of analysis of other players’ actions. He’s kind of like the person you don’t want to get in an argument with because he may be able to the day against you with persuasiveness alone. To my mind these tend to explain each other; Tom Scud has been very influential in shaping the discussion, and he is correct in seeing himself as someone who can help turn a bandwagon around, at least temporarily. Townies are no less well served than scum are by buffing up their reputations with a little sleight of hand & deflection of suspicion. No vote for Tom Scud from me at this point.

Next I shall consider the cases against the underwater contingent.

I don’t think Tom Scud is Scum. Of course, my opinion might be coloured by the fact that he doesn’t think I’m Scum, but he makes a good point - he has been instrumental in outing a couple of Scum so far. That has to count for something.

As for Scuba Ben

The CiaS thing from yesterDay has already been mentioned. But on top of this I don’t buy this claim. Flipping back to pos #2 in the game:

Too easily synthesised, too hard to contradict.

(The possibility for contradiction arises only if each of those titles above is unique, so then the bureaucrat citizen could counterclaim. But there is no certainty this is the case)

Vote Scuba Ben

Sorry for not being clear. I am talking about your attempt to save Chronos. I am surprised you didn’t take more heat for this as a way to deflect heat from CIAS, which makes me think you may be scum.

Yes, I noticed. I also noticed that neither link led to the relevant post. It’s plausible that they were distancing themselves. I don’t think CIAS had much of a chance of diverting attention away from Chronos based on Scuba’s unvote of FS and so it was likely a throw-away comment. And Chronos’s question was completely innocuous. However a post that would better convince me that they weren’t teammates would be Chronos’s epic account of game events which he posted specifically for the benefit of Scuba but that could easily have been an effort to play the helpful townie.

I placed the first vote toDay after a 25-hour pause in the game with the main intention of reactivating discussion and the hunt for scum. As I expressed in my post, I don’t know if we should pursue additional role information (Boozy & OaOW), if it’s time to try lynch the lurker (Tilta), or if we should do a mass role claim. So far all I’ve got to go on are neutral or pro-town vibes on a number of people and anti-town vibes on just a couple.

I don’t believe the case against Scuba is in any way water-tight but, of the remaining players, he’s given me more than just a vibe that he’s scum. Comparing his play here to a brief look at his play in Lost, he’s been quite unhelpful in finding scum (he’s even been a little lazy although I understand that RL happens). I certainly did not attempt to force a claim from him and was quite surprised at his reaction to my “annoying” perseverance. If anyone has a more clear-cut case or if we can put our collective brains together to work out a better strategy, I’ll consider holding off on Scuba today and come back at a later stage but for now I’m happy with my vote.

The links were wrong? Geez Louise. Why does this board do that? It was posts 1661 (Chronos) and 1727/1736 (CIAS) if anyone wants to go look. The thing I was getting at as regards Chronos’ post in particular was that it strongly suggested that Chronos had not spoken to Ben – if he had, he’d have known what Ben later reported, that he’d never gotten the doily at all. And it fits Chronos’ general pattern of fishing about game mechanics, which again he’d have no need to do if Ben was on his team.

Ya, pretty much. I think not voting yet is scummy but I obviously don’t think my actions are motivated by being scum. Since two of the four people I smudged are already drawing votes I thought it was interesting.

Yes, it’s slow. It’s one of Gryff’s, what, five or six powers (or more or less); I’m not surprised. And I think it’s not giving too much away to say that I didn’t send it to one of our confirmed-by-mechanics players; the odds of scum or SK night-killing the recipient blind is pretty low.

Same thing happened to me with my one attempt at a WoW, I thought it was enough just to change the “postcount” value but upon preview saw that every single post has a separate ID too (and so I gave up…).

I hear what you’re getting at and it’s plausible. I suppose it could also be a case of “scum would never do that” or better “scum wouldn’t need to do that”. I can also imagine Scuba being quite inactive on the other board too so when he popped up after a 2-day absence, Chronos wanted to satisfy his curiousity. Of course Scuba then disappeared from here for another 5 days after that 1 post…

Sure though, it’s a point in Scuba’s favor all right. Do you have any better ideas for a vote today?

I don’t think they could possibly be unique; there have to be more than 4 vanilla town even in a setup as role-heavy as this one.

However, it occurs to me that those titles may not be entirely fluff. Could our two other claimed vanilla Towns say which they are of wife, child, miner, or bureaucrat?

Also, looking back amrussell was ID’d as a wife, but BillMC was identified as an “ordinary Citizen”.

Was BillMC a bureaucrat, ordinary miner, wife of a miner, or child of a miner?

NETA: The other two claimed vanillas being Gueri and Drain

I partially dispute the use of “claimed vanilla” when referring to CIAS’s published results of his investigations to which I commented “he got lucky or he has investigative powers”, or something along those lines. I may have fallen into a trap but I did not claim, in the usual sense of the word, at any stage in the game.

Anyway, while we’re here, I’m a “wife of a miner” - which may be the reason some refer to me as a “she” - and my role PM matches the public one to the letter.

Tom, didn’t you claim vanilla too when CIAS put out his little list of investigations?

I think he said “Damn!” and then added “do you get alignment info too?”

Technically, I didn’t, but I suppose there’s no point being coy about it; if I were not vanilla Town (or scum I guess) I would have reacted more skeptically from the start, so no real harm in saying I am vanilla Town and a bureaucrat.

That rings a bell… “no harm in saying…”

Anyone care to parse out the truth-value of the sentence?

(only joking :))
