A friend of mine rented a beautiful wedding dress for $25. I sure wish there were places like that around here, when my time comes. I guess I’m cheap, but I can’t stomach paying hundreds of dollars for a dress that will just be boxed up in the attic for the rest of my life.
Hehehe, that sounds exactly like me, though my girlfriend would insist on going through the whole deal (not that we’re anywhere close to marriage). Although I do think tuxes can be reused, so it wouldn’t be a total loss on my part…
About wedding dresses, do any couples wear them for anniversaries? That would be a way to get quite a few uses out of them, provided the marriage doesn’t crash and burn…

My wedding is on Aug 17th. We have a final guest list of 83 people; here in New Jersey, that translates to about $15,000, which we are paying for direct; nothing on a card, etc. It’s been a bit of a struggle, but we can walk down the aisle and not have to worry about paying for this for years and years and years…
It’s a Victorian style wedding and it’s going to be great. For favors, we made up “First Aid Kits for Life”…little glass jars filled with items needed…like a band-aid “for Life’s little mishaps”, etc. The jars are covered with swatches of left-over material from our Victorian curtains. We did them all in a night with lots of laughter and wine. Our Rehearsal Dinner will be a barbeque/swim party at our house. We drew up, designed and printed our own invitations and thank-you cards.
Lots of little things such as that and we estimate we saved about $10,000. Enough for a great honeymoon.
The only problem we had was her sister wanting to go to 400 dress shops to look at dresses, when my Beloved picked out a perfect dress at the first shop and didn’t want to look anymore. She got it for about $400 and says she can alter it a little to make it a great dinner dress. I can’t wait to see it.
My surprise splurge will be a Barbershop Quartet to come into the reception and sing to her, with me as a fifth on the last song. I can’t WAIT to see the look on her face!!
